Oil Market Continues To Recover Boosting Iraq’s Revenues
Joel Wing, MUSINGS ON IRAQ - 11 hours ago
Iraq’s oil exports dipped slightly in March 2021, but prices continued to rise which meant revenues were up for the fifth month. This is important for the most petroleum dependent country in the world whose economy rises and falls with the energy market. In March, Iraq averaged 2.945 million barrels a day in petroleum exports. This was slightly down from February’s 2.96 million. This was despite the Oil Ministry boosting its production in February by around 100,000 barrels a day according to Iraq Oil Report. That didn’t matter as oil prices went up again. In March a barrel...

Looks like I was right about the housing market
Peter, Bayou Renaissance Man - 11 hours ago
Just last week, I wrote an article titled "Is the housing market poised for a massive correction?" In it, I said: If there is a wave of forced selling, I expect major investment firms to take advantage of it to increase their property holdings, as happened after the last housing crisis. That doesn't bode well for private home ownership, as such firms don't *want* families to own their own homes. They want families to rent from them instead, giving them a permanent income stream with less risk than investing in stocks and bonds. It looks like I was spot-on in that forecast....

Consider their rejection of Biden's infrastructure bill. Paul Krugman writes: Their real motives aren’t a mystery. Watch out for food price inflation - it may get much worse this year
Peter, Bayou Renaissance Man - 14 hours ago
Rabobank has some interesting - and worrying - forecasts about what may happen to world agricultural prices this year. It's a long, detailed analysis, but it repays the effort needed to read through it and absorb what they predict. If they're right, we - consumers - are likely to face significant increases in our food costs, both this year and for the foreseeable future. For those on tight budgets, this is *not* good news. Text in italics is my emphasis. Today’s elevated [food] price trajectories shows nobody had the foresight, fortitude or financial power to stockpile in t...
Steyn hits a triple
Francisco, Small Dead Animals - 14 hours ago
” The leagues major, their morals are a minor consideration” MLB, Coke and Delta each get their turn in the outfield of woke corporate virtue signaling in Steyn’s latest monologue. Some more clips from yesterday’s show.
What’s it called? Monorail!
Dennis, Small Dead Animals - 15 hours ago
Lately we’ve heard of some overtly Marxist policy proposals emanating from the federal NDP convention, but concerned about being upstaged, the ruling Liberals have apparently decided to counter with some overtly Simpsonesque ideas at their own convention. This year’s policy resolutions run a wide spectrum, with resolutions on such issues as expanding rural internet access,… Continue reading →

History lesson in pictures: The Nazis inside Ukraine
Bruce K. Gagnon, Organizing Notes - 4 hours ago
This map well illustrates the divisions that exist within Ukraine. The western part of the country (near Poland) is where the Nazi elements are strongest. The eastern side of the nation (along the Russian border are ethnic Russian). *Click on any of the photos for a better view.* During WW II, when Hitler's Nazi forces swept into western Ukraine, Stephan Bandera put on a Nazi uniform and led his followers in the attacks on Jews and their fellow citizens. Today in western Ukraine the Nazi descendants of Bandera still worship him and believe they have the right to kill Ukrainian ...

Myanmar: US-backed Opposition is ARMED
Land Destroyer, Land Destroyer - 14 hours ago
*April 6, 2021 *(Brian Berletic - LD) - After weeks of denying the violence carried out by US-backed opposition groups in Myanmar, US-funded propaganda outlets like "Myanmar Now" are finally admitting and making excuses for the opposition fighting government security forces with war weapons. The opposition has announced a parallel government the US is likely going to “recognize” and offer military support to - creating a catastrophe directly on China’s as well as Thailand’s borders in a chain of events identical to the US engineered “Arab Spring” and interventions in Libya and S...

Are Vaccines The Real Driving Force Behind The Latest Donbass Destabilization?
Andrew KORYBKO, OrientalReview.org - 15 hours ago
Observers are in a passionate debate over what’s really driving the latest Donbass destabilization, with the most prominent hypotheses being either domestic Ukrainian politics or the US’ regional geostrategic ambitions, but the argument can also compellingly be made that the concept of so-called “vaccine nationalism” is playing a largely under-discussed […]

Can the U.S. Military Build Flying Armored Cars?
Kris Osborn, The National Interest - 15 hours ago
*Kris Osborn* *Weapons, Americas* The Air Force Research Laboratory is exploring new innovations. *Here's What You Need to Know*: Such a vehicle would break new ground in the area of multi-domain warfare. What if an armed tactical vehicle is driving head-on into enemy fire, when soldiers suddenly detect large armored vehicles, uneven terrain and heavy weapons? What if, in order to avoid those obstacles, the armored vehicle turns into a flying one? Perhaps a ground combat vehicle quickly becomes airborne, flies above the high threat area and lands behind enemy lines to conduct re...
Use this form to apply for a ballot to vote by mail
Norma, Collecting My Thoughts - 15 hours ago
Our household has received a hand delivered brochure with 2 absentee ballot applications. I could say it's rigged against a certain class of people. The elderly. And not for naught. We old folks, especially remembering the creaming we got for that school bond issue which was so outrageous many didn't bother to vote, might just vote down a recreation center as fancy as our neighbors in Dublin, Westerville and Worthington. This keeping up with the Jones on a pension budget is tough. I suspect the supporters do all they can to discourage the elderly from voting and not campaigning. Bac...
Explaining the Hartlepool Poll
Phil, All That Is Solid ... - 15 hours ago
Ouch. Contrary to earlier predictions, the Tories are on course to win the Hartlepool by-election. In a Survation poll for th CWU, they reported the Conservatives on 49%, Labour on 42%, the new Northern Independence Party on 2%, and the rest scratting around for one per cent apiece. Accurate constituency polls are harder to pull off than national polls thanks to smaller sample sizes and the difficulties ensuring it is representative, but ultimately it's the headline that matters. Unfortunately, things look worse as you peer into the details. Boris Johnson has a 49% favourability ra...

Everything The West Claims It Values Is Invalidated By Its Treatment Of Assange
Caitlin Johnstone, Caitlin Johnstone - 15 hours ago
The western world has a very high opinion of itself and its supposed values, and its treatment of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange makes a lie of it all. Truth. Justice. Freedom. Democracy. We are taught from an early age that these are the sacred values […]
