Settler violence: a rampage by Israel’s own homegrown supremacists

Now imagine these attacks growing so extreme that white supremacists can even take over the homes and land of those Black people, simply because they can, knowing the authorities will turn a blind eye... Iraq Delays Early Elections Due To Technical And Political Issues
Joel Wing, MUSINGS ON IRAQ - 12 hours ago
(EPA) Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kazemi came into office with one man mandate to hold early elections which were demanded by the protest movement. He initially announced they would occur in June 2021. That has now been pushed back to October. The official reason is the Election Commission asked for more time to register parties and voters, but unofficially it’s because the ruling parties want to hold onto power and therefore do not want the vote anytime soon. The Election Commission asked PM Kazemi to hold off on balloting. Only a fraction of voters have had their records update...

Opening The Door To A More Democratic UAW
Terrace, PopularResistance.Org - 13 hours ago
In December the leadership of the United Auto Workers reached a settlement with the Justice Department that opens the door to election of top union officers by referendum vote of the membership. That might well end more than 70 years of one-party control and help democratize a union once known for animated internal debate and competitive leadership contests. The settlement provides for six years of oversight by a court-appointed monitor with extensive powers, including the authority to veto new UAW staff hires and block candidates for office who do not meet an anti-corruption stan...
The Labor Movement Has A Game Plan For The Biden Era
Terrace, PopularResistance.Org - 13 hours ago
As the Democrats take control of the White House and both houses of Congress amid overlapping national crises, labor leaders say it is now more critical than ever that Washington deliver significant material gains for the working class. Democrats partly owe their recent electoral victories in places like Nevada, Arizona, Pennsylvania and Georgia to the extensive get-out-the-vote efforts of unions like UNITE HERE and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which reached millions of Black and Latino voters. After defeating Donald Trump and the Republicans at the polls, t...

Impeachment 2.0: When Will The Backfire Begin?
Daniel McAdams, Peace and Prosperity - 10 hours ago
Yesterday the House impeachment 2.0 team marched impeachment papers over to the Senate for trial. With even President Biden doubting a conviction of citizen Trump, is there a point where what increasingly appears to be a show trial backfires politically for the Democrats and for a president who is desperately trying to sell the slogan "unity" to a divided America? Is there any Constitutional provision for removing a president from office who has already been removed from office? Will this start a trend in retroactively impeaching past presidents? Or pro-actively impeaching president...

[image: undefined] FBI agents across the nation are tracking down and arresting Trump supporters who walked into the US Capitol during the January 6 protest that turned into a brawl. Scores of protestors have already been charged with unlawful entry—“knowingly entering or remaining in a restricted building or grounds without lawful authority.” The media is treating this as a heinous and self-evident offense, but my own experience at Washington protests makes me wary of treating transgressions as treason. I roamed downtown Washington on the day before the inauguration. The city was ...

The demand to defund the police has become a central narrative responding to the graphic killing of Black people. Black organizers must now discuss if this strategy can move us closer to community control of public safety and unpoliced Black neighborhoods. The defund demand has a number of important branches but at its root it is a call to mobilize community energy towards winning votes at local budget hearings. This effort is not just about the vote but reflects a firm belief in U.S. democracy which at this exact moment may be the most mistaken political stance possible. During...

On this week’s show, Professor Wolff explains that in countries where the government is respected and empowered, such as New Zealand, Taiwan and Cuba, among others, the COVID-19 pandemic has been effectively contained. Alternately, where the government is demonized, disrespected and distrusted, such as in the UK and the US, the pandemic has been devastating. Prof. Wolff argues that a rational economy includes both private businesses (regulated by the government to different degrees) and state-owned and operated enterprises, depending on which performs best to meet the needs of soc...

The Liberals and the Idea of Rationality
Unknown, The Conservative Socrates - 14 hours ago
The idea of rationality is the key means through which liberalism establishes its superiority in society. The liberals own all the mouthpieces of intellectual, artistic, and political discourse; thus they possess the power to valorize their own agenda as rational and brand the agenda of their rivals, like the conservatives, as irrational. The language of rationality imparts a superior status to liberalism and ensures its success in the intellectual and political battles. The liberals cannot be defeated as long as they possess the power to determine what is rational and what isn’t.

I believe that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is telling us important things and faces severe push-back from the corporate oligarchies as a result. He is very courageous and smart. He also carries with him the deep sadness and (likely) inner rage after the CIA directed assassinations of his father and uncle. He knows who he is fighting. He is telling us the story. Corporate power is transforming these days into global neo-feudalism. Anyone who stands up to the program gets demonized. When you see US-NATO and their Wall Street bosses demonize a nation, a particular leader, or even an ac...

Warfare History Network, The National Interest - 15 hours ago
*Warfare History Network* *History, Europe* The Battle of Dorylaeum would influence the tactics, strategy, and mystique of the many Crusades to follow. *Here's What You Need to Know*: Dorylaeum was a primer for many battles to come. The Battle of Dorylaeum, fought on July 1, 1097, marked the first full-scale military clash between the Christian armies of the West and the Muslim armies of the East. As such, it would prove to be an educational experience for both armies, one whose final outcome would have an extreme influence on the course of the First Crusade. *The Origins of th...
How Much Did FDR Know About Stalin's Katyn Massacre?
Warfare History Network, The National Interest - 15 hours ago
*Warfare History Network* *History, Europe* Did Roosevelt know about the full extent of the infamous massacre of Polish officers at the hands of the Soviet Union? *Here's What You Need to Know*: It appears virtually certain that Roosevelt and high-ranking members of his administration suppressed information regarding the Katyn Forest Massacre due to military necessity and political expediency. Months after the Red Army stormed across the Polish frontier from the east and occupied approximately half of Poland in the autumn of 1939, the Soviet secret police (NKVD) rounded up thous...
House of Horrors: Battlefield Medicine in the Civil War
Warfare History Network, The National Interest - 15 hours ago
*Warfare History Network* *History, Americas* A visit to the Civil War surgeon, often literally a “sawbones,” was a horror more feared than death on the battlefield. *Here's What You Need to Know*: Despite the terrible slaughter and suffering that it caused, the Civil War ironically marked one of the most progressive periods in the history of military medicine. Safe behind its ocean barriers, the United States paid scant attention to the wars that raged abroad during the early 19th century, taking little notice of the lessons that might have been learned from the European experi...
How Fast Can Dogs Learn New Words? The Answer
News Staff, Science 2.0 blogs - 15 hours ago
Most dog owners will say that dogs understand tone, and interpret that rather than words, and that most dogs do not learn words (i.e. names of objects), unless extensively trained, but a new analysis shows that is not always the case. Some dogs have some exceptional abilities and can learn new words after hearing them only four times. A new study by the Family Dog Project is just what it sounds like; investigating dogs who seem to learn words in the absence of any formal training by simply being exposed to playing with their owners in the typical way owners do, in a human family. ...

Climate Change Shaped Empires, Even In Roman Times
News Staff, Science 2.0 blogs - 15 hours ago
The Arsinoite nome (now called Faiyum) region 60 miles south-west of Cairo was once the breadbasket of the Roman Empire but by the end of the third century most settlements there had been abandoned. The problem was climate change. Attempts by local farmers to adapt to the new dryness and desertification of the farmland didn't work and they had to move. Nature gave the area a one-two punch. Climate data indicates that the monsoon rains at the headwaters of the Nile in the Ethiopian Highlands suddenly and permanently weakened, which meant lower high-water levels of the entire river i...
Fourth Turning Detonation” (Excerpt)
CoyotePrime, Running 'Cause I Can't Fly 2 - 15 hours ago
*“Fourth Turning Detonation”* (Excerpt) by Jim Quinn “Americans today fear that linearism (alias the American Dream) has run its course. Many would welcome some enlightenment about history’s patterns and rhythms, but today’s intellectual elites offer little that’s useful. Caught between the entropy of the chaoticists and the hubris of the linearists, the American people have lost their moorings.” – Strauss & Howe, "The Fourth Turning" “The ancients believed that each cyclical extreme, mirroring the hopes and fears of the other, helps generate the other. The night longs for the day,...
