CPP Investments Gains 5% in Q2 Fiscal 2021
Leo Kolivakis, Pension Pulse - 6 hours ago
Paula Sambo of Bloomberg News reports that CPP Investments posts 5% quarterly return as equities recover: Canada Pension Plan Investment Board returned 5% in the quarter ending Sept. 30 on the strong rebound in equity markets, which lifted the value of public and private holdings in the country’s largest pension fund. The fund’s growth to C$456.7 billion (US$349 billion) in its fiscal second quarter was attributed to gains in a broad range of asset classes, CPPIB said in a statement on Monday. A stock market pullback in September, driven by concerns over renewed lockdown measures ...

REDISCOVERING THE PRINCIPLES OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION On November 2, 2020, President Trump signed an executive order to establish the Advisory 1776 Commission, which, among other responsibilities, will be tasked with creating a curriculum that teaches actual American history in America’s schools. This is not only an antidote to overtly fake histories, such as the *New York Times’* 1619 Project, but also to much of what is presently taught or not taught in the nation’s schools. LaRouche PAC will be forwarding contributions to that project as well as to the citizenry at large, ba...
Imperial Japan's Giant Aircraft Carrier Was a Flop

On the Back of the Pandemic, the Militarisation of Latin America is Gathering Momentum, Analysts Warn

In at least a dozen countries, soldiers have been deployed to enforce containment measures, often using brute force, on populations made up of largely poor informal workers. Biden Has Inherited a Nuclear North Korea
Darcie Draudt, The National Interest - 5 hours ago
*Darcie Draudt* *Security, Asia* With Joe Biden now poised to become president on January 20, how will North Korea respond to the change in leadership in the United States? North Korea has two perennial foreign policy goals vis-à-vis the United States: a peace treaty and sanctions relief. And North Korea—no doubt empowered by the unconventional Donald Trump administration—has accomplished a lot in the past four years in service of those goals. It has grown its nuclear weapons arsenal, improved its ICBM program, and met with both Trump and South Korean President Moon Jae-in—a pres...

*Stein Tønnesson* *Security, Asia* Joe Biden should not erase the good work that Donald Trump has done in North Korea. Donald Trump obtained two important things by befriending Kim Jong-un. First, he took Kim out of the international shadows and made him an individual personality in the eyes of world media. Brazilian Elections – A Day Of Shame For The Far Right
Terrace, PopularResistance.Org - 8 hours ago
On Sunday, November 15, over 147 million Brazilians went to the polls in the largest round of local elections in the nation’s history. One state, Amapa, had to cancel most of its elections due the fact that most of it has been without electricity for over 2 weeks because of the massive failure of the privatization of it’s power grid. In the other 25 states elections went smoothly, with the biggest complaint being the 3 hour delay due to computer glitches which caused final results to be announced only 7 hours after the polls closed (watch and learn, USA). The post Brazilian Elect...
Free Speech Is More Complicated Than You Think
Terrace, PopularResistance.Org - 8 hours ago
The truth is – words are dangerous. Words are the catalysts of all action – good or evil. To start with a cliché but solid example: words inspired millions of Germans to direct their ire towards Jews, Romani, LGBTQ and other state-labeled “degenerates.” Words inspired the Manson family to murder innocent people. Words inspired the murder of entire villages of Vietnamese, Afghan, and Iraqi civilians. Words convinced thousands of colonizers that this land was their land and that the native people were nothing but mere savages to be removed by force in the name of a pearly white Mani...
Oath Keepers’ Private Chats Show Desire For Post-Election Violence
Terrace, PopularResistance.Org - 8 hours ago
The Oath Keepers, a militia made up of mostly retired military and law enforcement employees, have long sought to pose as a militant vanguard among Trump supporters, particularly older men. The group and its eyepatch-sporting leader Stewart Rhodes often acted as a paper tiger in recent years; blustering and ominous threats against antifascists and liberal protesters failed to materialize in concrete organizing steps. Since Donald Trump’s decisive loss in the 2020 presidential election, the Oath Keepers escalated their rhetoric: encouraging violent attacks on anti-racist and libera...
Calm before the storm: the shame of admitting defeat too much for Trump’s psyche
Bandy Lee, Michael West - 9 hours ago
[image: Donald Trump You're fired] Donald Trump's bigger-than-life persona hides an empty inner core. Exposure of any flaws in his façade has the potential of destroying him, at least in his mind, since there is nothing of substance to fall back on. Some experts believe the period ahead could therefore be the most dangerous period of Trump's presidency. Dr Bandy X. Lee and Elizabeth Mika report.

Israel Loves the F-35 Stealth Fighter (And Might Not Fight a UAE Sale)
Seth J. Frantzman, The National Interest - 7 hours ago
*Seth J. Frantzman* *Security, Middle East* Israel now says that the F-35 sale to the UAE, which includes dozens of aircraft, will not harm the U.S. commitment to Israel’s qualitative military edge. Israel’s Defense Minister Benny Gantz visited the Israel Defense Forces Northern Command in mid-November. Israel had discovered a number of improvised explosive devices on the Golan Heights, along the border with Syria. This is an area that has been tense in the last years after the Syrian regime retook southern Syria from rebel groups and Israel began to express increasing concern ...

A Vignette Concerning Benjamin Franklin

*by Robert Ingraham* In a spirit of harmony with President Trump’s directive to call forth the teaching of actual American history in our schools, I offer here the first in a series of vignettes on the lessons that may be learned from the life of Benjamin Franklin. Franklin built and led a successful revolution, the greatest revolution in human history. In our fight today, if we wish to succeed—to save the American Republic, to create a happier, more productive future—we should learn from what he did. We need neither bravado nor defeatism; rather, we must improve our own capabilit...
Are We Really Past The Point Of No Return On Climate?
Terrace, PopularResistance.Org - 8 hours ago
A controversial new climate study has found that, even if greenhouse gas emissions were halted tomorrow, it might not be enough to stop temperatures from continuing to rise. The study, published in Scientific Reports Thursday, was conducted by two researchers at the BI Norwegian Business School. They used the ESCIMO climate model to determine that, even if emissions ceased tomorrow, the permafrost would continue to thaw for hundreds of years. "According to our models, humanity is beyond the point-of-no-return when it comes to halting the melting of permafrost using greenhouse gas ...

Betsy DeVos’s ‘Voucherland’ Spells Disaster For Public Schools
Terrace, PopularResistance.Org - 8 hours ago
Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, sensing perhaps the need to reaffirm her stamp on education policy, recently gave a speech at an education roundtable at Hillsdale College, a private Christian college in Michigan. The Washington Post called her remarks an “anti-government polemic” that reasserted one of her long-held beliefs: that families, rather than the federal government, should be the “sovereign sphere” for deciding how to spend public money for education. DeVos also made a plug for her Education Freedom Scholarship Initiative, which would provide $5 billion in federal tax...

New Secretary of Education Sweepstakes

Joe Biden's team (Dr. Jill and who else) will be choosing a new Secretary of Education. Of those listed, who's your pick? If you say Randi (Rhonda) or Lily, your comment will not be posted. From WaPo: Under Secretary Betsy DeVos, the Education Department has rolled back some civil rights protections as well as Obama-era efforts to hold for-profit colleges accountable for poor outcomes. The New US War On Western Sahara

The original brief of this website, set up ten years ago, was to raise awareness of the ‘revolving door’, rewards for failure, widespread behind-the-scene lobbying and party funding which corrupts the decision-making process here and abroad. There is currently a resurgence of such concerns, expressed here by Professor Prem Sikka and later by Sophie Hill, a PhD student.

Amidst the renewed rise of obscene inequalities, a wave of protests is sweeping through Italy, from south to north. On the one hand, the pandemic has engendered an upsurge in workplace disputes to defend health and in mobilizations to protect the income of workers affected by COVID-19-related restrictions. On the other hand, however, we have also witnessed successful interventions coordinated by the right and infused with a bewildering array of conspiracy theories in response to such measures.
The Dead And Those About To Die – Climate Protests And The Corporate Media
barovsky, The New Dark Age - 10 hours ago
It is sweet and fitting to die for one’s country. Wilfred Owen, the great English poet of the First World War, described this phrase as ‘the old Lie’ in his famous war poem, ‘Dulce et decorum est’. Patriotism so often means ‘honouring’ those who ‘fell in service to this country’, grand ceremonies at war memorials, feasts of royal pageantry. And then sending yet more generations of men and women to fight in yet more wars.
