Security In Iraq Sep 1-7, 2020

Joel Wing at MUSINGS ON IRAQ - 11 hours ago
The number of security incidents reported in Iraq declined in the first week of September compared to the last full week of August, but the types of attacks showed that the Islamic State may still be in the process of starting a new summer offensive. Pro-Iran groups also kept up their steady pace of operations against the Western presence in the country. There were a total of 20 incidents reported during the first week of September in Iraq. Five of those were by pro-Iran groups. That included IEDs on convoys carrying supplies to the U.S. in Babil, Baghdad, Dhi Qar. The inciden... more »

When Journalism Becomes Corrupt Boosterism

Forget about Joe Biden's promise to restore The Soul of America - whatever the heck that even is. How about restoring the heart, soul and purpose of journalism, a/k/a The Fourth Estate? Philadelphia To Temporarily Block Landlords From Enforcing Evictions

Philadelphia court officials will announce a temporary stay on lockouts related to eviction orders Tuesday, PlanPhilly has learned. Tom Wolf. But while some restrictions remain in place, the Tuesday reopening of courtrooms means at least some eviction orders could — in theory — move forward. The post Philadelphia To Te... more »

An AR-15 type rifle will fire and function dirty as long as it is liberally lubricated. The problem is the more oil you pore down the bolt and into the chamber the more dirt it collects. A Pair of B-52 Bombers Just Sunk a Destroyer in a Wargame

Peter Suciu at The National Interest - 13 hours ago
*Peter Suciu* *Security, * Two B-52s took off from Fairford and flew south to "hunt" the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Roosevelt (DDG-80), which was one of four of the class of warships that operate from Spain in missile-defense patrols. The capabilities of the United States Air Force's B-52 Stratofortress have expanded greatly since the aircraft first took flight in the 1950s. The Cold War-era heavy bombers have received regular updates, which could keep the venerable B-52 flying high for decades to come. In recent months, the B-52s have been deployed around ... more »

China's J-31 (or FC-31) Stealth Fighter Is No F-35

Kris Osborn at The National Interest - 13 hours ago
*Kris Osborn* *Security, * Beijing most likely stole a lot of the data to make the J-31 from the U.S., however, this plane can't compete with the F-35. Here's why. A new, yet unverified social-media picture of China’s J-31 5th-Gen stealth fighter, sometimes referred to as the FC-31, may indicate that the airplane has been upgraded with new avionics, according to a report published in the South China Morning Post, cited by Newsweek. Navalny False-Flag Authors Invent New Twist to Cover Lies

Finian Cunningham at 13 hours ago
[image: undefined] So now the Navalny poison episode takes on a new twist with German military intelligence subsequently claiming they found traces of Novichok on a bottle of water the Russian dissident had purportedly been drinking from. Rather, it sounds more like the authors of this false-flag operation have “bottled” – meaning became unnerved by the absurdities inherent in their own narrative. Last week the German government announced that a Bundeswehr military laboratory had detected Novichok in the body fluids of Sergei Navalny. That promptly led to charges that the Kremlin w... more »

ACLU Staffer Attacks University For Admitting Nick Sandmann While Professor Denounces His 'Anti-Intellectual' Views

[image: undefined] I have previously written, as a long supporter of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), about my concern over how the venerable group has changed under its current leadership, including a departure from its long robust defense of free speech. Recently, the ACLU has abandoned its famed neutrality and has not supported some on the right while supporting those on the left. Now, the ACLU’s Samuel Crankshaw in Kentucky has targeted Transylvania University for admitting Nick Sandmann, who was falsely accused of abusing a Native American activist in front of Linco... more »

Mile Markers of Tyranny: Losing Our Freedoms on the Road from 9/11 to COVID-19

John W. Whitehead at 13 hours ago
[image: undefined] You can map the nearly 20-year journey from the 9/11 attacks to the COVID-19 pandemic by the freedoms we’ve lost along the way. The road we have been traveling has been littered with the wreckage of our once-vaunted liberties, especially those enshrined in the Fourth Amendment. The assaults on our freedoms that began with the post-9/11 passage of the USA Patriot Act laid the groundwork for the eradication of every vital constitutional safeguard against government overreach, corruption and abuse. The COVID-19 pandemic with its lockdowns, mask mandates, surveillanc... more »

The left's war on the election

trinko at Conversations about the obvious - 13 hours ago
The Washington Post recently ran an article that said that the only scenario for the November election that didn't result in violence was a Joe Biden landslide. Saying essential "vote Biden or else". The article assumes that all Trump supporters and officials are monsters while all Joe's supporters are saints. What's interesting is that when you read the article you find that it's the Democrats, not Trump supporters, who refuse to accept the results of the election. For example they declare that even though Joe lost the rules of the election should be changed so that he won. Th... more »

An Old Lesson

Tom Friedman has an interesting column in today's *New York Times. * It's about the politics of humiliation. And it goes a long way to explaining Donald Trump's supporters -- and people in general: Humiliation, in my view, is the most underestimated force in politics and international relations. The poverty of dignity explains so much more behavior than the poverty of money. People will absorb hardship, hunger and pain. They will be grateful for jobs, cars and benefits. But if you make people feel humiliated, they will respond with a ferocity unlike any other emotion, or just refu... more »

Foreign Policy Of This Country Has To Reject US Exceptionalism

Terrace at PopularResistance.Org - 14 hours ago
Describing the Democratic presidential candidates after a debate back in January, our next guest noted that they had “talked some about what it means to be the commander-in-chief,” but not “enough about what it means to be the diplomat-in-chief.” The same might be said for corporate news media, whose assessment of presidential contenders gives foreign policy short shrift generally, and then, as we noticed in the debates, overwhelmingly frame international questions around military intervention. What’s missing from that truncated conversation, and what does it cost us in terms of g... more »

Religion and Moral Values

Unknown at The Conservative Socrates - 14 hours ago
A society that is not founded on the moral values which only a religion can provide cannot save itself from moral decay. The modern philosophers will argue that the principles of morality can be provided through an atheistic philosophy, but since the eighteenth century, when the atheism became a powerful force in politics and morality, all experiments for grounding a society’s moral values in atheistic philosophy have failed. There are two problems that any atheistic moral theory faces: first, such a moral theory is nothing but a religion without theological tradition (eg., communi... more »
