Europe Is Closing Up Again, While Trump Under-Boss Mobster William Barr Compares Quarantines To Slavery
*Magical Mystery Cure by Chip Proser* I can remember back in mid-March thinking how horrible the pandemic was for Italy and being certain would never been that bad for us over here. (That Trump is in charge must have slipped my mind.) Yesterday Italy reported 1,585 new cases of COVID, bringing the country's total to 293,025 (4,848 cases per million residents). 4,848 cases per million residents is, at least relative to the U.S. pandemic, a very small number. Italy, in fact, is better off than every American state other than Maine (3,691 cases per million residents) and Vermont (2... more »
Do eye glasses protect you from Coronavirus?
I always thought it made sense that wearing eye glasses all day could protect one from virus particles, but never heard much about it. Now it's come to light again due to a study done in China (which I actually don't trust much). Two theories—glasses block the entry and keep your hands away from touching your eyes when your hands are contaminated. This is observational, as are the mask studies. https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamaophthalmology/fullarticle/2770873
How can I get through to law-abiding citizens that THE JUSTICE SYSTEM IS BEING WEAPONIZED AGAINST US???
I'm exasperated almost beyond measure at the seeming inability of some people to recognize that we're operating in a different environment right now, as far as the justice system is concerned. *With demonstrations, protests and riots breaking out in almost all American cities, law-abiding, upright citizens cannot - dare not - assume any longer that the justice system will recognize them for what they are, and respect their rights, and work to uphold them.* Instead, in far too many jurisdictions in these United States, *the justice system has been corrupted*. It's become biased a... more »
Lisa Savage stood out in the Senate debate
* Credit: George Danby / BDN* *Bangor Daily News* I was stunned Friday evening watching the U.S. Senate debate. Until then, you’d almost not know that there were four folks running for the office. During the debate, Lisa Savage stood out as the most competent and honest candidate and because of that and many other qualities, she is the most qualified to represent the people of Maine in the U.S. Senate. The only problem is we have heard next to nothing about her in the news. Savage answered the questions she was asked concisely and clearly. Her front-running opponents dodge... more »

Could the U.S. Army Destroy North Korea's Nukes?

Army Techniques Publication No. 3-90.40, “Combined Arms Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction,” explains U.S. doctrine for neutralizing WMDs. The Sad History of Russia's Forgotten Space Shuttle Program
*Kyle Mizokami* *Security, Eurasia* The Buran program was a victim of bad timing. *Key Point*: The Buran is now little more than a footnote in space history. The intense rivalry between the United States and the Soviet Union pushed the two countries to compete, not only on Earth but throughout the solar system. Good ideas, or perhaps more accurately good ideas at the time, were frequently imitated as long as they garnered prestige for Washington or Moscow. Of all the ideas that were copied during the Space Race, none were as curious—and blatant—as the Soviet Space Shuttle. The A... more »

While the Ohio boats had a beam of forty-two feet, the Akulas were a staggering seventy-four feet wide—necessary to pack both missiles and such a large reserve buoyancy into her bulk. Why Don't Americans Trust Experts Anymore?
*Sita Nataraj Slavov, Ben Ho* *Science, * Trust in experts has been wavering. And a major culprit is the way science is communicated: While scientific journal articles are typically nuanced and cautious in their claims, the sound bites and memes that the general public consumes ignore that nuance and uncertainty. As the race for a COVID-19 vaccine heats up, polls suggest that many Americans would refuse to be vaccinated. That’s a major concern for policymakers who hope to stop a pandemic. It’s tempting to dismiss those who would refuse a vaccine as ignorant or “anti-science” — bu... more »
