Why Our Analyses On Powell And Iraq Matter Today

Kevin Zeese at PopularResistance.Org - 7 hours ago
We are still living with the consequences of the Iraq War brought on, in part, by the testimony of Colin Powell before the UN. Iraq is still an unstable country. Extremist groups such as the Islamic State arose because of Iraq’s instability. The invasion of Iraq is now universally seen in the U.S. as the nations’ worst foreign policy blunder perhaps in history. To prevent another such crime of aggression, this needs to be repeatedly stated. As Ray McGovern pointed out in his piece, the politicization of intelligence in the lead-up to the Iraq invasion manifested itself again in t... more »

Starting in the early 1970s, the Republican Party began to draw voters away from the Democrats by appealing to racism and racial anxiety in the electorate; Republicans called it their “Southern Strategy.” By 2000, with the presidency of George W. So, for novices like me, what's the bottom line on all the carbon opposition? Leslie@EarthProtector.org

By: Nick Schroeder

Allow me to summarize this once more. 1) 288 K – 255 K = 33 C warmer with atmosphere is rubbish. The 288 K is a WAG pulled from WMO’s butt. NOAA/Trenberth use 289 K. The 255 K is a theoretical S-B temperature calculation for a 240 W/m^2 ToA ASR/OLR balance (1,368/4 *.7) based on a 30{154653b9ea5f83bbbf00f55de12e21cba2da5b4b158a426ee0e27ae0c1b44117} albedo. By definition no atmosphere includes no clouds, no water vapor, no oceans, no vegetation, no ice, no snow an albedo perhaps much like the moon’s 0.15. 60{154653b9ea5f83bbbf00f55de12e21cba2da5b4b158a426ee0e27ae0c1b44117} of the li... more »

It may be poor, but it exists, like the miserable plant in the lone flowerpot of my neighbor who's crippled. That plant is her happiness, and sometimes it's even mine. What I write, bad as it is, may provide some hurt or sad soul a few moments of distraction from something worse. Flying firefighters operating "danger close" to the ground in Utah

Peter at Bayou Renaissance Man - 9 hours ago
Here's a video clip of a massive DC-10 Air Tanker firefighting aircraft making a drop in Utah a couple of days ago. Note the lead aircraft, helping the big plane position itself for an accurate drop, then getting out of the way as it comes through. That was a great high-precision drop by the DC-10. If the load of fire retardant had hit those houses, the kinetic energy of the weight of all that liquid would probably have collapsed the roofs. You can see what a much smaller load does to a vehicle in this video clip. I wouldn't like to be standing under that! Peter

Trump Has Damaged the U.S.-Japan-South Korea Alliance—And China Loves It

Gene Park, Mieczysław Boduszynski at The National Interest - 10 hours ago
*Gene Park, Mieczysław Boduszynski* *Security, Asia* [image: Reuters] Donald Trump has accomplished in just three years an objective that Beijing has long pursued: reducing U.S. influence in the region by weakening the U.S.-Japan-South Korea partnership. Earlier this week, President Donald Trump suggested that his competitor for the presidency, former Vice President Joe Biden, is a "gift to communist China," implying that Beijing will work to sabotage the election in Biden’s favor. In fact, quite the opposite is true. Chinese leaders must be giddily toasting Trump on a nightly ba... more »

White House health advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci has praised New York for setting an example for the rest of the country of how to successfully lower the number of coronavirus cases. Democrats want to keep kids out of school: That's racist

trinko at Conversations about the obvious - 10 hours ago
A new study showed that in Los Angeles Black and Latino students participated in distance learning programs, instituted after the China virus hit, at 10 to 20% lower rates than white and asian students. Which means if the schools stay closed Blacks and Latinos will suffer the most. Yet the LA Teachers union doesn't want the schools opened until the police are defunded and there's a ban on new charter schools--which by the way have a proven record of helping Blacks more than public schools do. Across the country Democrats are calling for the schools to be closed. They're doing so be... more »

Yes Virginia Joe Biden does want to defund the police

trinko at Conversations about the obvious - 10 hours ago
While Joe Biden doesn't actually say he wants to defund the police he has labeled them as the "enemy" and said that some of the money, how much he hasn't specified, used for the police should be redirected elsewhere. Now if you take money away from the police that's defunding the police no matter where the money you take ends up. Hence redirecting money from the police is the same as cutting the police departments budget; ie defunding the police. It is true that Joe hasn't come out for abolishing the police but that's a small comfort to all the poor inner city Blacks who are alread... more »

Security In Iraq Jul 8-14, 2020

Joel Wing at MUSINGS ON IRAQ - 10 hours ago
Violence in Iraq remained at a very low level during the second week of July. Incidents were in their teens again for the sixth straight week. The end of the Islamic State’s spring offensive along with an aggressive series of sweeps by the Iraqi forces through core insurgent areas contributed to the current security situation. There were 16 incidents reported in the media in Iraq from July 8-14. Two of those were by pro-Iran groups. Rockets were discovered aimed at Camp Taji in Baghdad and an armed group claimed it burned trucks in Muthanna used to ferry supplies to the Americans... more »

Nancy Pelosi calls Federal agents "stormtroopers"

trinko at Conversations about the obvious - 10 hours ago
In Portland rioters have laid siege to the Federal building. They've tried to prevent people from leaving and they've fired fireworks into the building. Because Trump isn't a fan of mob rule but rather a fan of the rule of law Federal agents have acted to protect the Federal building and Federal employees. Unidentified stormtroopers. Unmarked cars. Kidnapping protesters and causing severe injuries in response to graffiti. These are not the actions of a democratic republic.@DHSgov’s actions in Portland undermine its mission. On evident waste

There doesn't seem to be much dispute that the Saskatchewan Party is thumbing its nose at the movement to defund the police by making a point of announcing funding increases without any consideration as to how services could better be delivered through other organizations. But one doesn't have to be part of the defunding movement to see how that allocation of money reflects an obvious misallocation of provincial resources. After all, some of the obvious effects of the COVID-19 crisis have been to reduce the need for a police footprint in many areas. Traffic tickets in particular fe... more »

There Are Detectable Brain Differences Between Musicians And Non-Musicians

News Staff at Science 2.0 blogs - 10 hours ago
Music is in most aspects of our lives we probably don't even notice it - but it can be noticed in our brains. A new study examined the brains of non-musicians, western classical musicians, and eastern classical musicians, as they were exposed to unfamiliar rhythms and non-rhythmic patterns. As you would expect, trained musicians have mastered auditory statistical learning, so they showed greater powers of rhythmic prediction compared to non-musicians, but what was intriguing were differences between those trained in Japanese and Western classical music. read more

The Fight Over Hagia Sophia is About More Than a Building

One of the architectural wonders of the world, the Hagia Sophia cathedral was conquered once before. It was converted into a mosque by its Ottoman conquerors; minarets were added, and its ancient Byzantine mosaics were whitewashed. More recently, it has functioned as a museum for decades. Did Trump Put Chris Wallace In His Place?

Everybody is talking about yesterday's Chris Wallace interview with President Trump. Many in the mainstream media are praising Wallace's forceful, even combative tone.
