Sunday morning music

Peter at Bayou Renaissance Man - 16 hours ago
While I was in hospital last week, a reader sent me the link to a new music video by Russian trio (and occasional quartet) Silenzium. They appear to be a living definition of "Don't sell the steak, sell the sizzle" (or, in this case, "Don't sell the music, sell the sexy!"). I'd never heard of them, so I looked them up. Last.fm says of them: Silenzium was created in 2004 by young musicians from Novosibirsk Philharmonic Society. Silenzium is a classical string quartet with the addition of a contrabass and a drum set, which breaks all the stereotypes about a traditional sound of a s... more »

Feelin' The Bern-- From Iowa On

DownWithTyranny at DownWithTyranny! - 16 hours ago
It's not really possible to accurately poll a caucus state, and *especially* not Iowa. The most recent attempt, by Siena for the *NY Times* shows a close tie between Elizabeth, Bernie, Mayo Pete and Status Quo Joe. No one else is a factor and chances are good that after the Iowa caucuses, candidates who rolling the dice on Iowa-- like Amy Klobuchar, Michael Bennet, Steve Bullock and John Delaney-- will drop out and go back to work or-- in Delaney's case-- go find a job. A caucus is not anything like a primary. On February 3, participants will sit down at a designated location ... more »

Cometh the hour cometh the man

Craig at Is the BBC biased? - 16 hours ago
Mail Online headline. Amazingly, the two words aren't 'John' and 'Simpson'. *Simpson was in Poland on the night the wall fell. I loved the way in the documentary he tried to make it sound like a noble mission to scramble back just in time to elbow Brian Hanrahan out of the way in order to give us his superior wisdom on the evening news. (Yes, that devastating insight which meant he was hundreds of miles away at the time.) * *His desolation as the live satellite feed juddered to a halt in mid-pontification was priceless.* So JS wrote on an earlier thread. *"USA Communist – China Nazi"* By Greg Hunter’s USAWatchdog.com "Geopolitical and financial analyst Warren Pollock says if you look beneath the veneer, the USA and China function much differently than their stated forms of government. Pollock explains, “Now, we have melded the organs of state that we need to run a country with our corporations. They are one in one, hand in hand. So, the FAA and Boeing are tied at the hip. Ruger Security 9: The Ultimate Carry and Self Defense Gun?

Charlie Gao at The National Interest - 16 hours ago
*Charlie Gao* *Security, * Here is what we can tell you. Ruger’s LCP series of pistols has been wildly possible, with both the original LCP and LCP II proving very popular as concealed carry choices. But with the Security 9, Ruger is scaling up the LCP design to a duty-sized pistol. This puts in direct competition with Ruger’s own “American” pistol. But how do the two stack up? What makes the Security 9 special? The Security 9 follows the LCP’s ergonomic profile, which results in a more ergonomic grip than the American. It also features forward slide serrations where the America... more »
