The View From the Far End of the Sofa
Now that the spectacle of the Kavanaugh hearings, Part 2: “Tales From the Yearbook” and the grilling of a Supreme Court Nominee about high school fart jokes are over, it becomes obvious that the Democrats have overplayed their #MeToo hand. In their zeal to derail the nomination of a highly qualified judge, they played to the lowest denominator and seemed swept up in the frenzy of that movement and they may have inadvertently decimated the #MeToo movement. In its original incarnation, it was a movement about sexual assault and violence. In its current incarnation, it has morphed into... more »
Tell Congress to say NO to Space-Based Weapons
Members of Congress are currently resurrecting unworkable, dangerous, and costly proposals to build space-based weapons. If they succeed, the world will be less safe. Other countries will likely build their own space weapons, spurring an arms race in space that would pose a significant threat to satellites that the world relies on for communication, navigation, environmental monitoring, and a host of global needs. Union of Concerned Scientists helped stop this dangerous idea back in the 80's, and we can do it again now--but we need your help! Urge your members of Congress to oppos... more »
"The Greater Cause: Some Good Reasons for Doing Good"
*"The Greater Cause:* *Some Good Reasons for Doing Good"* by Madisyn Taylor, The DailyOM "Imagine what a different world we would live in, if we all worked toward the greater good. With all that takes place in our lives, it can sometimes be easy to overlook the fact that we're part of something greater than ourselves--a collective consciousness, the Universe, a greater cause. Because of our tendency to forget this, we might make decisions in our lives that don't reflect that responsibility that comes with this belonging. All too often, we focus just on the short-term, tangible gain ... more »

Indiana High Court Accuses CPS of “Significant Violations of Due Process in Termination of Parental Rights”
Cracks are starting to be exposed in the foundation of the state-sponsored child kidnapping structure of Child "Protective" Services. Parents who have been fighting the system for their children have seen these gaping flaws all along, but for decades anyone with power to change it has turned a blind eye to their plight. Finally, it appears that the higher courts in one state are beginning to recognize that the system is, indeed, violating parental rights with alarming frequency. Appellate judges from the Indiana Court of Appeals recently sent a strong rebuke to the Department of Chi... more »

Good King Wenceslaus, Munich Treaty
Czechia celebrates one of the national holidays today. On September 28th, 935 AD (a source still claims it was 929 AD, however), the good king Wenceslaus – the patron saint of Czechia – was assassinated. *A carol that Sheldon has memorized very well. A Czech version by Czech kids.* If you don't know who was the assassin, be ready for a disgusting shock. It was his brother, Boleslaus the Cruel. Well, Boleslaus invited Wenceslaus to the feast of St Cosmas and Damian and three Boleslaus' henchmen stabbed Wenceslaus to death. For Wenceslaus, it was a good career move in the long term... more »

Give Your Story a Voice
Remember this post? Perpetually funding Gaza? I wrote it in a reflexive, knee-jerk fit of disgust. Here’s what BBC Watch has made of it - it’s a much more knowledgeable take-down of Ed Stourton’s Sunday Programme than mine - starting with the missing ‘d’ in the name of one of Stourton’s two interviewees, the representative of Embrace the Middle East, Nigel Varn*d*ell, I didn’t check the name, and I didn’t research the organisation in question, Embrace the Middle East. “Headed by Jeremy Moody, who has an extensive history promoting anti-Israel sentiments. “ As a relatively well-in... more »

BREAKING NEWS: Billboard Critical of Vaccines Featuring Deceased MMA Fighter’s Son is Quickly Vandalized in Missouri
As the vaccine safety debate continues to heat up in the United States, both sides (the so-called “anti-vaccine” and “pro-vaccine,” although the debate is far more nuanced than that) are making their best efforts to get their points across by any means necessary. For decades, the voices of injury victims have been drowned out by the constant refrain in the mainstream media that these shots are “proven safe,” despite these outlets’ failure to adequately report on the widespread harm being caused (nearly $4 billion in injury payments since 1986). Is America's Most Deadly Aircraft Carrier Ever in Trouble?

The Kavanaugh Capers
I have to admit that I got momentarily hopeful during Brett Kavanaugh's meltdown before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday afternoon. Despite his denials, it was supremely obvious that this middle-aged preppie had watched Christine Blasey Ford's testimony against him that morning. The House Judiciary Committee
Let's assume that Judge Kavanaugh is confirmed. (Not that I have any inside information on that.) Upset At Work? Don't Walk Out Or They'll Claim You Quit
I see scenarios where employees leave work early for entirely sane reasons. For instance: - They are threatened by a coworker or customer and feel unsafe - They are so upset by a confrontation with management or a coworker that they are crying - They are sexually harassed - They are called racial, ethnic, or other discriminatory names Yet in each of these circumstances, I also see employers claim the employee quit or abandoned their position. Why the disparity? As I see it, the employer was looking for reason to get rid of the employee and the employee gave them the ... more »

A Sinkhole Of A Country
It was a volcanic day in Washington. It was all about he said/she said. It didn't have to be. The FBI could have investigated the charges. In fact, the American Bar Association is now demanding that the nomination be put on hold until such an investigation is completed. But that's not going to happen. The Republicans will, in Mitch McConnell's words "plow ahead" with Kavanaugh's confirmation. So who's lying? Jonathan Chait writes that he's come to the conclusion that it's Kavanaugh: Why do I believe Kavanaugh is lying? The charges are credible, and his accusers are willing to put... more »

How Google controls your information
90% of internet searches use Google, and 95% of searchers drop out after the second page. I began blogging in 2003 and remember when my blog entries came up within the first or second page. In the code, bloggers/web page designers put in tags that describe the most typical topics and your search picks up on that. With Google’s manipulation of search results that could never happen today. I’m a big believer in capitalism, and the founders of Google, one of which is a Russian immigrant, have done a good job for the investors in their company. That said, when successful companies... more »
On The Art of NOT Reading
When it comes to my reading, I have a rule—I avoid books that are being overhyped by the mainstream media. I never consult the bestseller lists for making my reading choices, and I don’t own any book written by a major politician, bureaucrat, film star or sportsman. My bookrack is a boring place, it is free of bestsellers, but I like it that way. I am in agreement with the view *on the art of not reading* that Arthur Schopenhauer offers in his popular essay, “On Books and Writing,” (*Arthur Schopenhauer: Essays and Aphorisms*; Edited by R. J. What Is Fasting? A Guide to the Different Types of Fasts
All fasting demands planing and particularly so if you are diabetic. My personal approach evolved into fasting on Monday Wednesday and Friday for at least 18 hours. This allows your small intestine to void and then rest for at least twelve hours, thus eliminating a day and one half from your normal food intake. Considering that we naturally consume nine days of food every week and that this supports an inevitable thirty percent excess fat base, losing that day and one half allows the body to approach your proper natural weight. In my case i dropped from 230 pound range to th... more »
Doctors Against Vaccines – Hear From Those Who Have Done the Research
The Vaccination Meme was cobbled together over a century ago. It has since been advanced everywhere against a host of potential diseases with limited improvement in the underlying science and certainly without going back to see just what the results really are. What is clear though is that scientific challenge is viciously suppressed and no one is allowed to ask questions even when the met stats are glaring. We now not only have a rising epidemic of autism, we also have weakened health among children that should not be happening at all. This is not from an infectious disea... more »
Oldest-known beer is a 13,000-year-old vintage
It says a lot to know that they were processing grains at all. wild grains are difficult to collect in terms of volume and it suggests that alternatives were not available. Soaking them will cause changes that can make them consumable and fermentation does the same. We are converting something indigestible into a food. A fermented gruel could work. I wonder just how many wild grains can be treated this way? Grinding it all removes the silica ladened shells and frees the proteins and starches. Soaking and fermentation can produce a useful gruel that can then be cooked a... more »

Midnight Meme Of The Day!
*by Noah* Dear Not So Dear Brett Kavanaugh, If you are the accused and you refuse to take a lie detector test and refuse to call for the FBI to investigate the new developments in your situation, and your accusers ask that they themselves be investigated and given the test... you just might be a guilty asshole. If your supporters are playing hide the documents (evidence) and trying to ram you through the approval process before even more information comes out... you might just be a guilty asshole. If you need 65 or more character witnesses to persuade people that you are an OK g... more »
Corruption: CSIS Spying on Pipeline Protesters - Feds Try to Pull Cloak of Secrecy Over Court Case
*Anti-Pipeline Demonstration Sign* While the Mainstream Media is obsessed with the Travesty of Justice going on in our neighbour to the south, USrael, over the Senate Confirmation hearings to approve Trump's nomination, Brett Kavanaugh for the USSC, I have been pondering the general malaise in the justice systems throughout the West. In the Kavanaugh controversy, we have the tattered, shopworn Hollywood/TV Soap Opera script hauled out of the newz cycle attic to play again. The first time I watched this boring re-run was during the *Clarence Thomas hearings* several decades ago. ... more »

Can Jeff Merkley Stop The GOP Drive To Confirm Kavanaugh?
*Jeff Merkley-- doing something to stop it* I hate writing about Kavanaugh and I'm so glad Noah does every night at midnight. Instead I want to say something about one of my favorite U.S. senators, Jeff Merkley (D-OR). But first a couple of Kavanaugh quickies. I'm sure that everyone in the country now knows that Michael Avenatti's client is Julie Swetnick and that she was a former student at Gaithersburg High School who went to some of those wild high school parties with Kavanaugh and his crowd. She was a victim of gang rape at one of those parties. And, she's willing to testify tha... more »

"Get Out While You Can"
*"Get Out While You Can"* by Llpoh "I am currently stateside. It has been a few years, and I had to take care of some business. My wife and I have revisited some of our favorite spots, and caught up with some family. We have driven through some of God’s finest works.
