HOLD THE INVASION!
Bruce K. Gagnon at Organizing Notes - 1 minute ago
US government officials have claimed that Bashar al-Assad's government used
chemical weapons against the citizens of Syria, but according to the UN
Independent International Commission of Inquiry that may not be the case.
According to the findings of the commission, there is evidence that
suggests the anti-government rebels in the country are guilty of these
allegations. Israel has launched air strikes against the worn torn country
in an attempt to stop the movement of weapons allegedly coming in from
Iran, but what is really going on the ground?
Now a Palestinian rock thrower has been killed by a thrown rock, will BBC & other anti Israel bodies stop reporting rock throwers as if a joke?

It is useful, in my view, to speculate or to analyze a president's current

Yesterday I went to see _2001: A Space Odyssey_ with a friend.
I had forgotten how tedious the first act is, as the primates - most likely
nasty chimpanzees and not collaborative Bonobos - become weaponized and
discover how to dominate the rival clan by killing their leader.
My companion found that bit quite entertaining; it reminded him of recent
carnage - more specifically, the take-over of the Conservatives by the
Reform Party, when Peter MacKay morphed from an insipid PC into a
weaponized, yet still insignificant, greedy opportunist.
Do you recognize any of the scoundrels?

An Ad in Kinmen local newspaper advocates putting nuke waste dump there.
Michael Turton at The View from Taiwan - 9 hours ago
This ad appeared in yesterday's 金門日報 (Kinmen Daily News), which appears to
be a government news organ. The ad first describe how the Koreans approved
a waste dump with a 70% turnout and 90% support in a referendum. It then
advocates that the people of Kinmen do no less than the South Koreans did,
follow gov't policy, and approve via referendum a low-level nuke waste
dump, apparently on Kinmen. The bottom line says it comes from Taipower.
The paper and ad are online here.

Some thoughts thoughts for the brain on this.
A metaphor is a means by which a perhaps complicated idea or set of ideas
is compacted down into a single phrase or even word. Take the phrase “all
the world is a stage”[1] from Jacques soliloquy in As You Like It. The
world is not a stage, but people do act out their lives, as it were, in
roles thrust upon them. Karl Marx, a Shakespeare aficionado, put it
differently: men make history but not in circumstances of their own
choosing. If metaphor is a way of transporting meaning all language is in a
sense a metaphor.

In 2000, the Clay Mathematics Institute offered 7 times $1,000,000 for the

Needless to say, such a comparison depends on personal preferences,

opinion; and it doesn't prevent some opinions from being more well-informed

Marco Rubio, El Presidente? Not Anytime Soon... Not In The U.S.A.
DownWithTyranny at DownWithTyranny! - 1 day ago
I suspect Marco Rubio is starting to realize he has a tiger by the tail--
and I doubt he has the depth of character to hold on much longer. The far
right has really turned against him. Neo-fascist religionist kook Bryan
Fischer starts nearly all his days tweeting endless incantations against
the hapless Rubio and his attempt to work on a comprehensive immigration
reform program.
Over the weekend I noticed that an anti-immigrant right-wing "Democrat,"
Mickey Kaus-- yeah, yeah, I know... not an actual Democrat-- one of those
creatures who makes a living on the right by playing a ... more »
NAZI ISRAEL GETS MOSLEMS TO KILL MOSLEMS
Anon at aangirfan - 1 day ago
Wherever you look, you see Moslems killing Moslems, on behalf of Israel.
Little Israel is surrounded by millions and millions of Moslems, but these
Moslems are no threat to Israel's control of Palestine, because these
Moslems are so easily manipulated into fighting each other.
Tunisia destroyed itself when its military, working for the CIA, dumped Ben
Ali's government of efficient technocrats.
In Syria, the CIA's al Qaeda Moslems have been killing innocent Syrian
Moslems.
And Israel has been committing war crimes by bombing Damascus.
*Najib wins.*
But wait, there is good news... more »
Will ALEC Keep Control of VA Governor's Office?
2old2care at Because I Can - 1 day ago
From WashPo
Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli II has an early lead over
businessman Terry McAuliffe in their race for governor, a new Washington
Post poll shows, even as most voters in the commonwealth have yet to engage
in the nationally watched contest.
Six months before Election Day, Cuccinelli (R) has a slender 46 to 41 percent
edge over McAuliffe (D) among all Virginia voters and a significant 51 to 41 percent
lead among those who say they’re certain to cast ballots in November. But
those numbers may change before then: The poll found that barely 10 percent
say they a... more »
The rush to Plan B
Libby Spencer at The Impolitic - 1 day ago
I'm totally on board with the point that any "moral" argument about Plan B
is bogus. Those preaching about teenagers being unable to understand how to
take the drug safely are really just vagina police who are all about
denying any form of birth control to teens and oftentimes even to adults.
Likewise, I'm sympathetic to the argument that putting up barriers to
access to any form of birth control are mainly about controlling women's
choices. Nonetheless, I have this nagging concern about Plan B that I can't
shake with dispassionate logic. My problem is I can't bring myself to
comple... more »

Sunday Question for Liberals
Jonathan Bernstein at A plain blog about politics - 1 day ago
Yup, it's going to be about 2106, same as the question for conservatives.
Interested in which 2016 possible candidates you find unacceptable, out of
those who either are actively running now or at least getting frequent
mentions. The list seems to be: Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, Martin
O'Malley, Andrew Cuomo, Kirsten Gillibrand, John Hickenlooper, Amy
Klobuchar, Brian Schweitzer, Mark Warner, Elizabeth Warren, but feel free
to add anyone else you don't like! So: which, if any, do you think are
totally unacceptable?

What an amazing week! Have you entered the giveaway for TWO Cricut
Expressions and your choice of TWO Kitchen-Aids or TWO DSLR Cameras? It is
pretty fantastic. Enter here. I loved all the link-ups from last week's
Creative Showcase. There were some amazing ideas, here are just a few:
I kind of love Almond Joys. I might actually have a secret stash of them.
This Almond Joy Popcorn from Lemon Tree Dwelling looks amazing! I am going
to have to make it!
Wow! Can you believe this dress used to be a shirt? I love how this
darling Cinderella Dress from Rae Gun Ramblings turned out!

Sunday Question for Conservatives
Jonathan Bernstein at A plain blog about politics - 1 day ago
Yes, yes, yes, I know about it being too early for 2016 and all that, but
nevertheless.
We have a very long list of potential candidates already, many of whom are
actively doing the things that they would need to do to run; in other
words, they're running right now. So my question: of all these candidates,
which would you find completely unacceptable?
The list seems to include (and I'm trying to keep it fairly short, just the
ones who seem at least semi-actively looking or have been frequently
mentioned) Jeb Bush, Chris Christie, Ted Cruz, Jon Huntsman, Rand Paul,
Rick Santorum, Ma... more »
we movie to canada: wmtc annual movie awards, 2012-13 edition
laura k at wmtc - 1 day ago
It's time for the wmtc annual movie awards. For my silly rating systems, so
far I've done:
- Canadian musicians and comedians (2006-07 and 2007-08)
- my beverage of choice (2008-09)
- famous people who died during the past year (2009-10)
- where I'd like to be (2009-10)
- and last year, vegetables (2010-11). Yes, vegetables.
This past year was especially momentous for me, so for this year's rating
system, I'm going with Life Events of the Past Year, best to worst.***

helped the family of war resister Kim Rivera lea... more »
