Midnight Meme Of The Day!
*by Noah* With all of the Republican enhanced tragedy around us every day, I thought I'd take a brief time out and just present the above J-L Cauvin clip as tonight's "Midnight Meme Of The Day." Don't you worry though, J-L has plenty of justified derison aimed at the scourge of America that inhabits the White House these days. Laughter may or may not be the best medicine, but 2 minutes of biting derision aimed at The Orange Menace can go a long way in helping us cope. Warning: Put your coffee (or coveffe) down before you play the clip.

Coronavirus: Five Reasons Why the UK Death Toll is so High
*Jasmina Panovska-Griffiths* *Health, United Kingdom* Where did the UK go wrong? At the start of the coronavirus pandemic, UK government advisers suggested that 20,000 UK deaths would be a good outcome. Today, the tally sits at more than 45,000. There is no doubt the UK has been hit hard by coronavirus, and has the second-largest number of deaths worldwide, trailing only the USA which has five times the population and 111,139 deaths. Where did the UK go wrong? And how will it prevent further deaths if a secondary pandemic wave occurs as it reopens? Modelling and epidemiology g... more »

*Ralph Sims* *Climate, World* Speed is only one factor. *Question: Does reducing speed reduce emissions from the average car?* Every car has an optimal speed range that results in minimum fuel consumption, but this range differs between vehicle types, design and age. Typically it looks like this graph below: fuel consumption rises from about 80km/h, partly because air resistance increases. Author provided But speed is only one factor. No matter what car you are driving, you can reduce fuel consumption (and therefore emissions) by driving more smoothly. This includes anticipati... more »
