*"Visiting Family Members Warps Your Mind"* by Discovery "Visiting - or even just viewing photos of family members - prompts brain activity that affects how you feel about them, your friends, and even yourself, a new study suggests. The study is the first to compare brain activity associated with seeing relatives with that linked to seeing friends and strangers. The findings may help explain everything from why our family can get on our nerves to why people who look like us can spark immediate feeling... more »

Russia Has a Stealth Fighter Problem

*Michael Peck* *Security, * And it most likely won't get solved. *Interestingly, the Vzyglad article doesn’t dispute the assertion that the Su-57 is better than its American stealth counterparts. That's the title of the latest article at Eric Peter's blog. He points out that modern technology in our vehicles is costing all of us a lot more when it comes to repairs, even for something as ostensibly simple as replacing a windshield. Embedded in the glass – part of the “assembly” – is *saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaafety* technology. It’s usually part of the rearview mirror, technically – but that’s now part of the windshield assembly in more and more new cars. It’s no longer the simple – and generic/universal – glue it in place rearview mirror cars used to have. The rearview mirro... more »

NASA, scientists crush climate change hysteria around Amazon fires — here’s the truth

Ragnar at 'Nox & Friends - 15 hours ago
From The Blaze: Excerpts: ‘Despite the widespread claim, the Amazon doesn’t produce 20% of the world’s oxygen’ While climate change alarmists spread fear over wildfires in the Amazon rainforest, data from NASA shows there is no reason for concern — or there should have been concern in past years. From media outlets to politicians, the wildfires have sparked a wave of misinformation and hysteria. The wildfires are so frightening because the Amazon produces 20 percent of the world’s oxygen, they claim. Others alleged the fires could speed up climate change. However, the panic appears ... more »

FREE REPUBLIC: OBJECTIVELY PRO-OPIOID MANUFACTURERS

In the news: An Oklahoma judge on Monday ruled against Johnson & Johnson in the state’s opioid case, forcing the company to pay $572 million in the first ruling in the U.S. holding a drugmaker accountable for helping fuel the epidemic. The opioid crisis has devastated small-town and rural America. Surely the heartlanders who comment at Free Republic are cheering this verdict ... right? Nope. Blame shifting by greedy government bureaucrats against a perfect scapegoat. Illicit market is booming and the government wins on both ends. Gore Vidal on conversion

Although no public jobs can be created and no bridges repaired as long as all that money goes for unworkable Rube Goldberg Star Wars systems, not to mention cost overruns and plain corruption, [President Bill] Clinton will have to overcome his natural southern affinity for all things military. Conversion is the name of the only game we have left. Conversion from war to peace. Instead of Seawolf submarines, he must build bullet trains (my advice to Jerry Brown, who dramatized it on television and won the Connecticut primary). The same workforce that now builds submarines has t... more »

*Why shouldn’t Brazilians burn down trees?* *The talk about Amazon oxygen is wrong. A mature forest consumes most of the oxygen it creates when tree and plant litter decay. Johnson & Johnson's appeal will shine spotlight on regulator's corruption in allowing dangerous drugs to flood the market for ten years

*As Johnson & Johnson plans to appeal the Oklahoma opioid verdict by arguing the FDA approved their drugs, and therefore, the due regulatory process was followed, it is worth recalling the amount of evidence that pharmaceutical companies have corrupted the FDA and other regulators to obtain approvals which they would not have obtained with corruption.* *Corruption is a crime.* *The approval process is not made regular by the stamp of the FDA but by a careful, accurate assessment if a drug is safe and effective. * *A drug company cannot destroy the regulatory process by false claims,... more »

My dad wasn’t one to keep a diary, but he did jot things down in a little spiral bound notebook later in life, and he noted that on their anniversary in 2000 he took Mother’s ashes on a ride in the country on their 66th. He never tired of driving the country roads even though he had done that most of his life to earn a living. After they’d both retired, he and Mom would sometimes take Sunday dri... more »
