"Compassion and Enabling" by admin "Sometimes there is a very blurry line between feeling and expressing compassion, and enabling someone. Showing compassion is giving someone space and understanding so they can work through their predicament whilst remaining at a healthy emotional distance. This healthy emotional distance can be hard to judge in close knit relationships such as marriage and families. For should one fall over the edge of compassion and into the field of pity, neither party will benefit. Pity serves no one in relation to creating the desired changes within relations... more »

Originally aired on BBC2 in 1992, 'Operation Gladio' reveals 'Gladio', the secret state-sponsored terror network operating in Europe. Gladio is the core fascist instrument of control that still remains in place - just with a different name. It's the connection of corporate fascism, organized crime, the military industrial complex, and the international bankers. It's the dark heart of global capitalist dominance. Shouldn't we at least recognize it and understand how it works? Shouldn't we tell others what we face?

I do feel like a broken record at times having constantly to reiterate the absolute fact that Israel, acting in accordance with its slaves in the US Government, absolutely did the attacks of September 11th, 2001....It does seem that finally after all these years of having our governments lie and our Jew spew media constantly lie and say otherwise, that people are waking up to the fact that Israel is fully responsible for the deaths of some 3000 innocent people on that fateful day.... Sadly, now over 13 years later, these criminals have yet to see a day in court for their acts of cold... more »
harper Wants to Create More Damaged Veterans (so he can ignore them too)
... like all the wounded, maimed, PTSD'd veterans of Chretien, Martin and his own folllies in Afghanistan. I think I got this idea from Sooey this morning. But the inklings of harper's brazen hypocrisy and cynicism must have been hovering around inside my skull before that. How does he get away with it? Because, obviously, right-wing voters are stupid, ignorant, hypocritical, ideological partisans with short memories who don't even notice that they simultaneously hold contradictory positions on the issues. Why does harper do it? First of all, because (aside from his cunning and ... more »

David Rudd Has a Problem That Won't Go Away Until He Does
Governor Haslam's crony, Brad Martin, and the corporate high rollers in Memphis made a mockery of the university search for President last year in order to appoint David Rudd as head of the University of Memphis. Already ensconced as Provost when the call came, Rudd rushed into the president's office with a bunch of debts to pay off for the plutocratic support that got him his new job. Rudd pushed forward with corporate consultation from Huron Consulting to put in place strategic budget implementation (SRI), which calls for departments to become entrepreneurial units that spend t... more »
Nigeria: Inside Boko Haram (Part 2)
*January 30, 2015* (Eric Draitser - Counterpunch) - The first installment of this article focused on the relationship between Boko Haram and the domestic politics of Nigeria, as well as the regional resource war that has developed around the Lake Chad Basin. It exposed the connections between individuals and networks both in Nigeria and Chad that are actively supporting and/or facilitating Boko Haram, and in doing so, participating in a dangerous game of regional destabilization. Naturally, the question becomes: why? In whose interests is this destabilization being carried out? Wha... more »

For Police: Postal Worker Accidentally Makes Video on How Not To Shoot Dogs
Amanda Warren An Australian motovlogger shoots dogs - with a DriftHD 1080P camera. His other armament? Treats. This postal worker comes across friendly dogs, but also plenty of vicious dogs who will bite him if they get a chance. And sometimes, those dogs get loose. He nonchalantly points to a dog who bit him in the past. He wants people to know that "posties" love dogs. What would he think of our American police state that trains officers to shoot any kind of breed? Without prompting. But police officers always voice the fear of getting bit. This fear is upheld in the highest... more »

Birds of a Feather: John McCain Defends Henry Kissinger

Humans Have Brought World's Oceans to Brink of 'Major Extinction Event'
I certainly do not think that the pollution problem is terminal, not least because most pollution on its own is itself terminal. It ends and geology can bury it. What we do have a problem with is over fishing and unregulated fishing which naturally leads to collapse. In Gothenburg, I am happy to be and have been part of the growing research environment of the Centre for Ethics, Law and Mental Health (CELAM), involving collaboration between forensic psychiatry, criminology, psychology, law, neuromedicine, political and care science, philosophy and ethics. Striking a pleading for failure to comply with interim order
Koohestani v. Mahmood, 2015 ONCA 56: [54] Notwithstanding the legitimate concerns raised before Spence J., my difficulty with his decision to strike the appellants' defence is that he failed to apply the principles relevant to such a request, particularly those set out by this court in *Bell ExpressVu Limited Partnership v. Corkery*, 2009 ONCA 85, 94 O.R. (3d) 614. In *Bell ExpressVu*, at para. 35, the majority identified striking out a defence as a severe remedy and made it clear that it should generally not be imposed as a remedy of first resort. The continuing delusions of Gareth Morgan: Part XVIII, The RMA edition
Readers, I ask you: Can Gareth Morgan still be taken at all seriously? Since the day he sat in a spa pool sipping a well-earned champagne after his son’s sizeable sale to Fairfax, Captain Morgan has spiralled swiftly downhill. He’s now such a rum old bloke you’d think he was swallowing the giggle juice by the gallon. There is no topic on which he hasn’t voiced an opinion, without seeming to ever trouble himself with either facts or fruitful thinking first. Today, his chosen topic is the RMA and the housing crisis. The latter, declaims the Captain from the pulpit of the *NBR*, has... more »

If you don't know about the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), it's high time that you learn and pass on your knowledge to others. In short, it is a plan by the super rich to get enormously richer by robbing us 99 percent. And so far they've been given carte blanche to screw us to the limit by our corrupt Congress and President Obama.
------------------------------ TPP = NAFTA on steroids By Jo Comerford. Wednesday, January 28 2015 Republicans in Congress want to work with the Obama administration to fast-track the passage of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). The TPP is the largest—and worst—trade deal you’ve never heard of, having been devised in secret by representatives of some of the world’s largest corporations. It’s so big and has the potential to do so much damage, it’s been likened to “NAFTA on steroids.” http://youtu.be/3O_Sbbeqfdw Robert Reich takes on the Trans-Pacific Partnership MoveOn.o... more »

Opposition leader stepping down
The two speeches on the state of our non-union were not real news, but this is: [image: image] I disagree with virtually every word Russel Norman has ever said, but he has been the single most effective opposition leader ever since he became one. And I have said that before. Like many others, I take him seriously because, despite his frequent insanity – his loony economics, bankrupt proposals, amusing election bribes, misanthropic policy positions and utter lies-- when he does get it right he’s good; he’s very good indeed. As he has been on the rise of the #SurveillanceState: the... more »

McCain: Protesters are 'Low Life Scum'
On Thursday, January 29, CODEPINK protesters spoke out during Senate Armed Services Committee hearing attempting to perform a citizens’ arrest on Henry Kissinger. Holding handcuffs and large signs that read: KISSINGER: WAR CRIMINAL and ARREST KISSINGER FOR WAR CRIMES, activists read aloud a citizens’ arrest [pasted below]. In response, Senator John McCain (R-AZ), Chairman of the Committee, called the human rights activists “lowlife scum” and said it was “the most disgraceful and despicable demonstration he had ever seen.”
World peace, an end to poverty, and less garbage
Day after Christmas at Las Penitas beach Were it up to me to pick a project for Central America, it might be garbage. In countries with per-capita GDPs somewhere around $4,000, sub-standard education systems and virtually zero social services, I admit that garbage is not the most pressing problem. But it's the kind of project that is wide open to all ages and classes, in urban and rural areas alike. It provides instant gratification, and possibly economic stimulus as well if you pay attention to which types of garbage have value and set up side projects along the way. (I d... more »

Radar and NEO
Here’s something that I found interesting. I get a daily update known as the Astronomy Picture of the Day. Today’s (January 29) was about the close approach of the Near Earth Object (NEO) known as 2004 BL86, which is about a third of a mile in size and if it struck the Earth could cause widespread damage and loss of life. It came within three quarters of a million miles of Earth or about three times the distance between the Earth and the Moon. Now all that is interesting and I often joke about worrying about the asteroid that is going to strike the Earth. It really isn’t much of a ... more »
