Research shows more riparian buffer strips can protect our waterways
This is common sense of course, but that is still out of fashion. THe obvious way to do this is to establish native growth band along the river banks. It needs to be robust enough to allow tree growth and yes we should plant trees every year, particularly in this barrier band. This will lead to a full restoration of the creek and river beds. Then we need to allow a double swath of grasslad to spring up as well. Cattle can graze this in rotation and the soil will thicken. These bands will soon be hte most fertile soil on hte farm. *Research shows more riparian buffer strips c... read more
