First-Ever Report on Local Subsidy Transparency Released
Today, Good Jobs First released the first-ever report (report, press release)
on local subsidy transparency in the United States, "Show Us the Local
Subsidies." This is a welcome development, even if the bottom line is that
the glass is nowhere near half full yet.
The report analyzes 64 incentive programs in the country's 25 largest
cities and 25 largest counties. Of these, only 1/3 (21) report the name of
the subsidy recipient online. Of these, a mere 10 list the amount of the
subsidy initially awarded, and only six the actual number of dollars

I think this should also work with that carbonized library they have in
Italy. It is reacting with the non organics and that will work as well with
those texts as well. Maybe we can recover the remainder of Livy's book on
Roman history.
What will be recovered are a lot of texts that went out of favor, a long
time ago before the intervention of the printing press. Once that happened,
the capability to reproduce disappeared while the texts then demanded

Potato Blight Genetic History Resolved
Solving the specifics of the potato blight is academically important but
that we were able to recover intact DNA from samples 150 years old is
extremely good news. From the late eighteenth century through recent times,
biology was about amassing huge collections of plants and critters, all
maintained and stored in museums and libraries to this day.
That is why I am optimistic that recovery of much of our extinct fauna and
flora happens to be plausible. Most of it went extinct with contact, not so
much us as our pests and particularly the rat.

Everybody has a theory. Certainly Steve M. points to some valid reasons for
MSNBC's ratings drop. It's true compelling current events will trump
opinion programming. Perhaps some of their core audience is disillusioned
because of the scandals, but I don't think that applies as strongly. And as
far as the summer lag in readership for left wing political blogs, as long

The Student Loan Delinquency Rate In The United States Has Hit A Brand New Record High

37 million Americans currently have outstanding student loans, and the
delinquency rate on those student loans has now reached a level never seen
before. According to a new report that was just released by the U.S.
Department of Education, 11 percent of all student loans are at least 90
days delinquent. That is a brand new record high, and it is almost double
the rate of a decade ago. Total student loan debt exceeds a trillion
dollars, and it is now the second largest category of consumer debt after
home mortgages.

Taliban was killed by a drone strike on Wednesday while the people of
Pakistan continue to decry the U.S. drone program.
Despite President Obama’s claims that there would be new restrictions on

Super aggressive mutant animals dominating the wild is not science fiction
anymore.
Canadian scientists have determined that if genetically modified salmon get
into the wild, they will breed with wild fish and pass on their modified
genes. The study also showed that the mutant offspring proved to be more
aggressive than both the GM salmon and the wild fish.

drawing attention, including a ranking of the scandals (respondents
answered that the IRS scandal is more important than Benghazi or the AP

The Hague: No Memorial Plaque for Jews Killed in the Holocaust out of Fear of Muslim Reactions
'The Paul Kruger School in The Hague was, under the Nazi occupation, a high
school for Jewish children who had to leave other schools by Nazi orders.
According to one of the teachers in the school, they prepared a design of
the plaque, but decided not to go ahead with it after they received
reactions that Muslim people now living in the neighborhood didn't consider
it acceptable.

Camp Bastion (Update)
The answer to the question raised in the last post, 'Did the BBC obtain
those legal documents from the lawyers campaigning on behalf of the
detainees at Camp Bastion?', is 'yes'.
The BBC News website may have been coy about how the documents came to be
seen by the BBC, but Evan Davis on *Today *wasn't.
