video said to show Toronto mayor Rob Ford with drug dealers smoking crack
with the murder of an individual who may have been killed over it.
Gawker claims a Ford City Hall staffer passed along to detectives the

Biking: the Michaels do the NE hills
This weekend I finally had time to do another two days of riding in the
beautiful places of Taiwan. This time we rode in the hills east of Taipei,
an area I had long wanted to explore, but had never been able to find a
weekend when I had time and the weather was good. Finally I just threw
caution to the wind and decided to go and damn the weather. Sure enough,
the bike gods reward the faithful, and we had two days of excellent
weather. Above a shaft of sunlight catches a woman in a Ruifang alleyway.

Before we all rush to judgment here I would like to make a couple of
comments. I saw this bridge for the first time back in the seventies and
it was obsolete then. I was surprised to see such a bridge on such an
important artery at all. Usually by then the road has been shifted and a
modern bridge is carrying the primary load. It also goes without saying

The fear of a widespread regional war has increased as two rockets hit
Beirut, Lebanon on Sunday and the head of Hezbollah said they would
continue fighting on the government’s side in Syria.
The rockets hit a Shi’ite Muslim district of the Lebanese capital just one
day after at least 28 people were killed and 250 injured in Sunni-Alawite
violence in the Lebanese city of Tripoli.
The rocket attack in Beirut is quite noteworthy since, as the Christian
Science Monitor noted, it was the first of its kind since 1990.

Sometimes, in some amoral struggle between two cynical nation-states, an
eloquent person can say how seeing how one life was cruelly snuffed-out by
the other nation-state was what made them choose the other nation-state.
The valid idea is that one human life unnecessarily snuffed-out is a crime.

So, you're on a well, you can do things. Here's one: put a wye (with gate
valve) on the line to the house and pipe some of your water to the inlet
pipe of a discarded (but non-leaking) hot water heater.
The heater has had half its jacket and insulation peeled back and is lying
on its side with some unobstructed southern exposure. The pop valve is on
the uphill side so it can bleed off some air for more heat efficiency. A

I am very frustrated by the lack of collective response to Fukushima. If
the plant is lost in flames then we will see nuclear dominoes fall in an
unprecedented nuclear extinction event. Yet it seems as if no one is doing
anything or paying attention to the most pressing crisis humanity has ever
confronted (in written history, at least).

I'm as unhappy as the next guy about government surveillance on journalists

advised the new Watergate special prosecutor, Archibald Cox, that Richard
Nixon should be on the list of witnesses to be questioned.
Meanwhile, a rare break in the tone of Watergate: Tony Ulasewicz, the
bagman of the hush money payoffs, testifies to the Ervin Committee and breaks
everyone up. In a story which produced more than it's fair share of
characters, Ulasewicz, the former New York City cop who Nixon's White House
had hired as in-house private investigator, was the most comical.
