BC NDP leader Adrian Dix is a rare bird. Or at least he would have been a
rare bird if he'd actually won last night. For that would have been his
party's fourth win in the 15-provincial elections staged since they were

Takoma Park, Maryland, has gone ahead: they've lowered the voting age for
local elections to 16. Excellent.
We're talking a suburb of 17K citizens, so it's not exactly a ton of 16 and
17 year old voters. Not to mention that giving them the vote only for local
elections isn't exactly likely to produce stampedes at the polling places.

For more than a year now I’ve shared information from my offworld contact.
I’ve transcribed it verbatim and it has consistently referred to this

This phenomena keeps popping up. In this case it is associated with a
lightening discharge. In the past it has been associated with meteor events
also but it is all about a passage through the atmosphere producing a

For many years we took it for granted that the public was to the left of
the government, not any more. Since the beginning of the depression the
British Social Attitudes survey has shown a clear right-ward shift in
public opinion. According to this piece it has been driven by Labour

I’ve been virtually incommunicado for a few days and didn’t manage to
finish follow-up piece in time to post before I left.
I read an article on Harry’s Place that explored, above and below the line,

I'm reading Ken Follett's latest book in Spanish.
Yes, 16 months after landing in a Spanish-speaking country with
Spanish-language skills that were not much more than tourist grade, I am
now making my way through an epic set in the pre-war years as Hitler rises
to power. And I'm understanding it (well, mostly).
I've loved this time in Honduras for all kinds of reasons. But I think I
might love it most for the opportunity it has given me to finally fulfill
