The long view
Many neighbors set out tomatoes last week and the destruction wreaked among
those by the unexpectedly heavy freeze is awful to behold. If I had known,
I might have planted far more starts and had some to give away. Might

Oh well, we probably won't even think about this once the oil spills begin
but it turns out that cold sea water is especially absorptive of CO2. And,
that is why the Arctic Ocean is rapidly acidifying.

IL-12 and IL-13 are two of the nine districts in the U.S. with exactly even
PVI scores. They are the ultimate swing districts-- at least by the

RETURN TO SYRACUSE
- I have to make the eight-hour return trip to Syracuse, New York for my

I had forgotten how tedious the first act is, as the primates - most likely

An Ad in Kinmen local newspaper advocates putting nuke waste dump there.
This ad appeared in yesterday's 金門日報 (Kinmen Daily News), which appears to
be a government news organ. The ad first describe how the Koreans approved
a waste dump with a 70% turnout and 90% support in a referendum. It then
advocates that the people of Kinmen do no less than the South Koreans did,
follow gov't policy, and approve via referendum a low-level nuke waste
dump, apparently on Kinmen. The bottom line says it comes from Taipower.

Some thoughts thoughts for the brain on this.
A metaphor is a means by which a perhaps complicated idea or set of ideas
is compacted down into a single phrase or even word. Take the phrase “all
the world is a stage”[1] from Jacques soliloquy in As You Like It. The
world is not a stage, but people do act out their lives, as it were, in
roles thrust upon them. Karl Marx, a Shakespeare aficionado, put it
differently: men make history but not in circumstances of their own
choosing. If metaphor is a way of transporting meaning all language is in a
sense a metaphor.

Collection of BMB fake photos composites
Not only are the crisis actors at different positions, they could not have
different injuries and torn pants all within 30 minutes. RG was occupying
the BG's stretcher position near to the "well done" paper marker. The
blood patches are vastly different from photo to photo and our Cowboy Hat
(CH) hero would have hurt RedHead (RH) by tearing and stamping the wooden
fence on her. Live footage showed a vastly different scenario and manner in
which the wooden fence was "pulled off" away from the CA victims to avoid

Aging Control?
Research on aging is clearly gaining momentum. Here we have another aspect
of the aging condition.
Several working protocols are already been field tested by motivated
subjects as was inevitable and generally reports are favorable, if not
obviously spectacular. For that reason, public enthusiasm is obviously
muted.
This state of affairs will not last, simply because a number serious folks

Expanding Puma Range
I grabbed this map from Dale Drinnon's blog, and it tells the story pretty
clearly. The puma is well on its way to reestablishing itself everywhere.
The deer populations are growing hugely, to say nothing of turkeys.
I also expect to see plenty of the grey wolf as the years progress and
both are dangerous to humans, particularly in winter when food does become
scarce.
Our core problem is that we are not yet seriously managing populations of

Cancer Doctors Protest Drug Costs
What a surprise! The sheep are finally squealing. Of course it is
obscene profiteering driven entirely by the inability of the insurance
industry to contain their own costs when everything they do is juiced on
the way through and more is better for them as it rationalizes higher
premiums.
We are rapidly reaching a point were tens cents of medical care is
delivered for a dollar spent. The present state easily approaches twenty

Roundup Health Fears
There are serious concerns regarding roundup but this attempt to link it
to low level chronic inflammation runs rather thin. It would be easier to
start with automobile air pollution.
Yet there is a problem. This is now an invasive broadly applied product
that is unavoidable and that means we are running an uncontrollable long

Well, I have to say, it’s pretty amazing. In addition to have a great chat
with teachers Ralph Ratto and Brian White, we debuted the new “Michelle
Rhee” button. We’ve used a term in the past, that these education “reforms”
are “faith-based.” That is, they’re not based on any evidence, per se, just

Speaking Spanish, and the challenge of criticism
It’s tough to serve up criticism in a second language.
Or it is for for me. I spent a day last week working with four other people
on a funding proposal for a Honduran NGO. In Spanish.
Luckily, one woman was making notes on her computer, which were projected
on a screen in the meeting room. Instead of struggling to grasp spoken
comments, I could read them. My personal effectiveness increased tenfold.

We’ve all heard folk declaring they “suffer from depression” in the same
way we might say “ I suffer from asthma/allergies/the flu—in other words,
