In the Thick of it

sue at Is the BBC biased? - 16 hours ago
Watching Ed Miliband on the Marr show this morning brought to mind a show that was supposed to be satire but turns out to be ‘not’. In ‘The Thick of It’ media strategies are hastily cobbled together to divert the public’s attention from The Party’s crazy mixed-up, contradictory policies, gaffes and incompetences. This morning we got a peep into the way it works in all its *Thick of It* glory. Ed was tasked with reconciling bendy-knee Starmer’s contradictory messages in an attempt to restore the Party’s credibility. Neatly rationalising (leftsplaining away) the inconsistency in sac... more »

A relative of Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat carried out a car ramming terror attack, injuring an Israeli policewoman. Israeli police then shot him dead. Well, that's one way of putting it. Sky News, however, put it like this: The Israeli government has already responded: This is what happened, judge for yourselves...pic.twitter.com/wOG3oIBOQE — Gov't Press Office (@GPOIsrael) June 25, 2020 Nothing could be plainer, and Sky should be absolutely ashamed of themselves.

Craig at Is the BBC biased? - 16 hours ago
When it was first mooted, I was quite enthusiastic about the idea of Times Radio providing an alternative to the increasingly tired and tiresome BBC Radio 4. But then the names of the presenters came out and it turned out to be mostly BBC presenters and familiar BBC guests, mostly from the 'mainstream centre' (as they like to see themselves). I suppose it *could* still be better than BBC Radio 4, but I can't see it being much more broad-minded. Still, one of its new presenters, John Pienaar, has given an interview to *The Sunday Times* and said something he wouldn't have said while... more »

Ed Husain, writer and think-tanker, tweets this morning: There was another stabbing in a Jewish neighborhood in London last night. Second time in weeks. Not in the morning news/BBC headlines. No mayoral indignation. Is it because Jews don’t riot and attack the police? Stop this balkanisation of identity. All lives matter. Meanwhile, to the surprise of no one, the "largely peaceful" Black Lives Matter UK further reveals its hand: As Israel moves forward with the annexation of the West Bank, and mainstream British politics is gagged of the right to critique Zionism, and Israel... more »

Will Barr Be The First Attorney General To Be Impeached? Or Is Pelosi Too Tired?

DownWithTyranny at DownWithTyranny! - 16 hours ago
Pre-Trump, historians have considered the two worst Attorneys General to be Wilson's A. Mitchell Palmer and his successor, Harry Daugherty, who was appointed by Warren G. Harding and also served, briefly, under Calvin Coolidge. Daugherty, a career criminal, was complicit in the Teapot Dome Scandal and was indicted and tried twice, although shenanigans in the Justice department led to hung juries and dismissals. The House Judiciary Committee also took up impeachment charges against him (1922) but partisan politics intervened and he was never impeached. That was the closest any Atto... more »

Kodak Agfa presents : Cairo’s Nilometer and Manasterly Palace from Egypt’s Nile River

This is not a long Kodak Agfa tour but rather a very short one. As we are talking about the Nile River nowadays considering the fact that Ethiopian officials are insisting to go on unliteral action and fill the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, I decided to dedicate more posts about the Nile River and its cruises which I enjoyed. In March 2017, I was in a family Nile cruise when we passed by the famous Cairo’s Nilometer at the far South tip of Rhoda Nile island. A couple of Sundays ago I put up a bluegrass/country song titled "Seven Hillsides". It meant a lot to me, touching as it did on several points near and dear to this retired pastor's heart. I also admitted in that post that I didn't listen to much music in those genres. One reader (who wishes to remain anonymous) thought it was time I broadened my horizons. Last night in the park at Lakeside, Ohio, we enjoyed a Fleetwood Mac tribute group. They were as happy to see us as we were to see them. They hadn't had a gig since Valentine's Day. It's not my music, but it was a large crowd, socially distancing and wearing masks. We were all happy to be together, while safely apart. It baffles me that with all the talent, skill and college degrees we have on the staff of our churches, no one can come up with a plan that serves God and man. It seems Christians don't have ushers who can pass out masks, or volunteers to wipe down benches and pews a... more »
