This One Gun Might Have Send Glock Fans Into Panic Mode

Charlie Gao at The National Interest - 19 hours ago
*Charlie Gao* *Security, * Can it beat the champ? The Glock is America’s most popular pistol. Used by almost every branch of the military and over 70 percent of police departments nationwide, the pistol is practically the gold standard from which all other modern pistols are judged. But with the popularity comes the clones. While attempts to mimic the Glock originally were from large manufacturers like FN, H&K, and S&W making their own polymer-framed, striker-fired pistols, recently smaller companies have been making practical clones of the Glock design itself, with almost no ch... more »

No F-35s Here: Don’t Fear Iran’s Fake Stealth Fighter

David Axe at The National Interest - 19 hours ago
*David Axe* *Security, * "The Islamic republic’s supposedly radar-evading Qaher 313 fighter was nothing but a cheap mock-up when it first rolled out in early 2013. It was still a cheap mock-up when it appeared again in public in 2017." Tensions have escalated in the Persian Gulf region in the aftermath of U.S. president Donald Trump’s decision unilaterally to withdraw the United States from the agreement limiting Iran’s nuclear program. The U.S. military has implicated Iranian agents in several summer 2019 attacks on civilian ships sailing near Iran. The U.S. Navy sent the aircr... more »

What Makes .380 Pocket Rocket Guns So Popular?

Gun News Daily at The National Interest - 19 hours ago
*Gun News Daily* *Security, * An effort toward improvement. *Yes, the LCP II is still a .380 pocket pistol and as a result is still snappy. It’s not a range gun, and should not be treated as such.* The .380 ACP semi-automatic pistol is one of the most popular categories of concealed carry weapons in the United States and has been for years. It’s easy to see why: .380 pistols are typically small enough to carry in the pocket, they are unquestionably smaller and lighter than competing 9mm single stack autos or .38 snubnose revolvers. But despite those advantages, .380 pocket pisto... more »

China's Navy is Going Blue Water (Starting With 6 Aircraft Carriers)

Mark Episkopos at The National Interest - 19 hours ago
*Mark Episkopos* *Security, * China has an eleven-thousand-mile-long coastline. We should have seen this coming. *China’s rush to rival the United States as an aircraft carrier superpower reflects Beijing’s conviction, inculcated after the perceived humiliation of the Third Taiwan Crisis, that China can neither defend its eleven-thousand-mile-long coastline nor project seapower throughout the East Asia region without fielding a modernized carrier fleet; specifically, six of them by 2035.* China is forging ahead with the construction of its third aircraft carrier in under a deca... more »

FDA quietly bans powerful life-saving intravenous Vitamin C

arclein at Terra Forming Terra - 20 hours ago
Not quite true but that is the result. Fortunately, the FDA applies only to the USA and alternative suppliers do exist. What is going on is that the consumer is slowly wrestling control back as the failure of the pharmaceutical industry is apparent to a wide number. Even the doctors are becoming aware. I do hope that radical change is coming and that this change is truely science based as meaning clinically basd and experiential. Several therapies exist that are fundamentally proven to be safe and can then be applied on demand. This is clearly one such and it has been assoc... more »

New "unprinting" process removes text from glossy paper

arclein at Terra Forming Terra - 20 hours ago
This is really interesting. We are looking at a practical method to reprocess used photo paper in particular by possibly laying down a full black coat first then treating it and then wiping it all clean. This paper is expensive and also hard to recycle otherwise. I do think that the consumer would welcome such an alternative simply because a clean fresh sheet is ample reward. It also allows the consumer to usefully sort out failed prints for such recycling and avoid a waste backlog. *New "unprinting" process removes text from glossy paper* *Ben Coxworth* *June 26th, 2019*... more »

Suspected State-Backed Hackers Transformed Telecoms Giant Into 'Global Spy System'

arclein at Terra Forming Terra - 20 hours ago
EEE!! My first problem with this story is that the NSA already has all of it. From that it is assured that all other government actors will be duplicating the effort as well as a matter of course. All this puts all government surveillance into the same category, which we must accept and set aside as unstoppable. What we actually care about is rogue private hacking which can easily become criminal through intent. The measure there is that low level protection is good enough because catching the criminal is more important than a false sense of security. You still go to jail f... more »

Artificial Meat Is a Growing Trend

arclein at Terra Forming Terra - 20 hours ago
We are seeing the advent of artificial meats into the advanced consumer markets. Many forms have been created and as noted, many of the best now come out of China. What has been slow is acceptance in the developed world and this is likely only because our meat is subsidized through subsidized grain production in particular. I also note that the mushroom trade has been expanding fast and that provides a range of bases that appear easily folded into meat alternatives. Imagine simply grinding up Portobello mushrooms, adding an egg binder to produce a great hamburger replacement. ... more »

Meet Russia's Anchar—the Fastest Submarine Ever Built (Only One Made)

Sebastien Roblin at The National Interest - 21 hours ago
*Sebastien Roblin* *Security, * Why? Speed has often held a mixed appeal in submarine warfare. After all, even very quiet submarines become noisy when they're tearing through the ocean at their maximum speed of 20 to 30 knots. As typically the goal in submarine warfare is to detect an unaware adversary and launch torpedoes without being detected in return, many submarines cruise at little more than a brisk jog to minimize noise. However, speed also enables more aggressive maneuvers against alert enemies and incoming torpedoes, and the ability to close with or disengage from adv... more »
