Sometimes African tribalism can work in our favor

Peter at Bayou Renaissance Man - 17 hours ago
I recently wrote about tribalism as a dominant force in Africa and elsewhere, both in terms of anti-terrorist security and the fight against Ebola. It's usually a negative factor, from the point of view of the First World. However, sometimes it works in our favor, too - as in Somalia, where the fight against Al Qaeda offshoot Al Shabaab continues, with considerable success. Strategy Page reports: Most Somalis do not trust any armed organization that does not have clear clan ties ... Therein lies the core problem with Somalia; clan loyalty is seen by most Somalis, as more importa... more »

First you must understand that all National sentiment in the historic past was harnessed by the Military as an critical organizing principal. It still is of course. It is now becoming far less necessary, not least because mass armies equate mass suicide while hyper trained specialists dominate all war. This work by Michael Cremo is important because it presents a body of physical evidence that is completely out of place as support for the accepted thinking. We see human artifacts that are geologically aged from 100,000 years ago to 2 billion years ago. It obviously challenges the idea of evolution itself. It is my opinion that both are both right and both wrong as well. The flaw lies in our present understanding of TIME. What is not understood is that rather shortly, we will be able to pass through a worm hole and land far in the distant past and then set up house keeping.... more »

Why is oat milk so popular, and what’s it actually like?

arclein at Terra Forming Terra - 21 hours ago
This came as a complete surprise and it is extremely important. First off, it tastes fine and clearly does the job. We now have a superior veggie milk product that is better than soy milk or almond milk. It is also able to challenge dairy as well. It is my personal opinion that raw dairy milk needs to become a thing and that all surplus dairy be fed into the cheese and butter industries as a base supply of protein and fat. Most of our butter should be turned into ghee but that will take years of change. Now we can displace drinking dairy with oat based milk and that is huge. ... more »

Venezuelan Crisis -- News Updates May 28, 2019

War News Updates Editor at War News Updates - 1 day ago
*David Shedd, National Interest:* *Maduro's Reign Will End* *It is only a matter of time.* Although the long-suffering people of Venezuela have endured much, and interim president Juan Guaidó is recognized by more than fifty countries, their ordeal is not over. The illegitimate regime of Nicolás Maduro averted its demise on April 30 after a showdown with the democratic forces of that nation under Guaidó. Americans cannot trivialize the apparent short-term success of the despot Maduro and his cohorts to continue to plunder Venezuela’s country. Nonetheless, the efforts to restore d... more »

Texas CPS Agrees to Pay $127K Sanction for Wrongful Removal of Children – But Does Not Admit to Doing Anything Wrong

AdminM at Health Impact News - 1 day ago
Six months after a Harris County judge hit Child Protective Services with a rare $127,000 sanction for wrongfully removing a Tomball couple’s children, the state agency has abandoned its appeal and agreed to pay what may be an unprecedented sum for its handling of the case. But the agency still hasn’t admitted wrongdoing, a fact that irked the family and their attorneys. “To this day, they just can’t admit that they screwed up — to me that’s the saddest part for all of the children in Harris County,” said Stephanie Proffitt, one of the attorneys representing Melissa and Dillon Brigh... more »

May 28: Hitler in Canada

Graeme Decarie at The Decarie Report - 1 day ago
https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/facebook-grand-committee-tuesday-1.5152436 When Hitler won power in Germany, he didn't do it on programs or policies. He did it on hatred,, in this case a hatred of Jews. He invented Jews into a hatred with his campaign speeches. It was all nonsense. But it worked. When Donald Trump came to power, he did it on a hatred. In his case, the hatred was immigrants, especially Latin Americans, and he roused his followers with tales of how child migrants would grow up to murder loyal Americans in their beds, and would spread drugs over the U.S. Increasingly... more »

MY UNPOPULAR OPINION: BIRTH CONTROL IS SAFE, EVEN IF ABORTION ISN'T

Steve M. at No More Mister Nice Blog - 1 day ago
Here's a debate I got into on Twitter today. You probably won't agree with my take. I think it's a very reasonable possibility that the Court overturns Griswold by 2025. https://t.co/NP6e7cMy8d — Erik Loomis (@ErikLoomis) May 28, 2019 Nahh. Conservative white men like to fuck, including the rank and file. They may be anti-abortion because they think it'll never come up in their lives, but they want birth control available. https://t.co/1yDsNQq5GG — Steve M. (@nomoremister) May 28, 2019 In the 1965 case *Griswold v. Connecticut,* the Supreme Court ruled that a Connecticut law ban... more »

The U.K. Royal Air Force Might Have F-35s (But Something Is Seriously Wrong)

David Axe at The National Interest - 1 day ago
*David Axe* *Security, * Too few aerial tankers. The U.K. Royal Air Force has too few aerial tankers, and no easy way of adding more, at precisely the moment it needs a large, flexible tanker fleet. A contract that observers have described as short-sighted and too costly is the major reason the British flying branch is suffering an aerial-refueling shortage. The RAF, in theory, has access to 14 Airbus A330 Voyager tanker-transports under the auspices of the service’s Future Strategic Tanker Aircraft program. In practice, just a few A330s are available on short notice for wart... more »
