As Pain Sufferers Turn to the Herb Kratom in Place of Opioid Drugs States Try to Ban It

AdminM at Health Impact News - 9 hours ago
Kratom, an ancient Southeast Asian herb used for reducing pain, increasing energy, and withdrawing from opioids is currently undergoing threats of being banned by individual states, adding to the seven states that have already banned it. Prior to this, kratom users survived a national threat of being classified as a Schedule 1 controlled substance by the DEA in 2016, which would make it illegal to have and use under any circumstances. Kratom's use originated in Southeast Asia centuries ago. It helped addicts get off opium and helped bolster energy and attitude while maintaining ale... more »

Pro-Vaccine Doctor Now Questions Vaccines After Researching Them – “The Science on Vaccines is Settled” is Wrong

AdminM at Health Impact News - 9 hours ago
First and foremost, everything you've ever heard or read stating that "the science on vaccines is settled" is wrong. Five years ago, I stood firmly in the pro-vaccine camp. As a physician, we were never taught specifically about vaccines, although we learned about the forms of immunity our bodies possess. We were told that vaccines worked, they were crucial to public health, and that we could trust the CDC, WHO, and other health agencies which had only our "best interests" at heart. Since retiring from practice, I've actually had the time to research the topic and discovered just ho... more »

Dense Fog at Fukushima Daiichi

Fukushima Prefecture Weather conditions: Precipitation 90% and Humidity 91% with dense fog expected From today: Is this fog radioactive? I realize its produced by atmospheric conditions but when I watch the webcams and I see blobs of denser "fog" come up from the reactor units and sail away I wonder whether the higher humidity makes visible the ongoing radioactive emissions from the plant: Do you see the denser blob between the red-and-white crane and the vent tower at the top of the screen? Rank, rate, percent and number

Norma at Collecting My Thoughts - 9 hours ago
When reading statistics, watch the terms. Rank, rate, number, percent. For instance, Alaska RANKS 4th in the nation for black homicides. Wow. The RATE of homicide for blacks in Alaska is 29.22 per 100,000 (the national homicide rate is 4.62; 2.67 for white Americans). Must be a very violent place, that Alaska! In most states many fewer women are lost to this violence (about 12%), but in Alaska it's over 37 PERCENT. However, in NUMBERS only eight blacks were killed, 5 men and 3 women. 100% were killed by someone they knew, and 50% of those deaths were because of an argument. (2015 st... more »

Does the Fed treat 2% inflation as a ceiling?

Scott Sumner at Econlib - 9 hours ago
The Fed says no. Many Fed critics say yes. I say that it’s too soon to say. Let’s look at PCE inflation (the index targeted by the Fed) over the past 15 years: Inflation has exceeded 2% in seven years and fallen short in eight years. That’s consistent with a symmetrical target. So why do […] The post Does the Fed treat 2% inflation as a ceiling? appeared first on Econlib.

Then-FBI Director Robert Mueller, 2012 (Source: Wikimedia) Special Counsel Robert Mueller has concluded his investigation, and many questions remain. Persecution and the Art of Writing

Anoop Verma at The Verma Report - 16 hours ago
Leo StraussLeo Strauss has an interesting perspective on the influence that persecution and censorship can have on the art of writing. Here’s an excerpt from his essay, “Persecution and the Art of Writing,” (Chapter 2; *Persecution and the Art of Writing* by Leo Strauss): Persecution, then, gives rise to a peculiar technique of writing, and therewith to a peculiar type of literature, in which the truth about all crucial things is presented exclusively between the lines. That literature is addressed, not to all readers, but to trustworthy and intelligent readers only. It has all the... more »

IF THERE'S NO PLACE FOR BIDEN IN TODAY'S DEMOCRATIC PARTY, THEN WHO CARES IF HE RUNS?

Steve M. at No More Mister Nice Blog - 16 hours ago
Charlie Pierce writes: ... there just isn't any room for Joe Biden this time around. A huge chunk of the party has moved on from him. There are plenty of people to run as pragmatic moderates; Klobuchar and Buttgieg did so on the stage Monday night [in CNN town halls]. The left is locked up between Sanders and Warren. What does Biden bring besides name recognition, some old-line union support, and boatloads of money from sources that half his party is going to be running against? If a large chunk of the party has moved on from Biden, then what's the harm if he runs? If he's really o... more »
