Will Iran start a general war in the Middle East?

Peter at Bayou Renaissance Man - 17 hours ago
Strategy Page reports that Iran's Revolutionary Guard, which is being hammered by Israel in Syria, is now threatening to unleash terrorist movements Hamas and Hezbollah against Israel. Iranian allies Hezbollah and Hamas are both threatening “war with Israel.” Such threats are not made without Iranian permission. That has long been the main Israeli fear, that Iran would support a simultaneous attack by Hezbollah in southern Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza. Israel believed Iran would wait until it had built a significant force of fighters and rockets in Syria before trying such an attack. ... more »

*Kyle Mizokami* *Security, * Let the debate begin. *In the 1980s the Model 700 adapted into the U.S. army’s M-24 Sniper Weapon System, and in 2010 the army began upgrading those rifles to the new M2010 Enhanced Sniper Rifle standard. The conversion involved converting a .308 long action rifle to .300 Winchester Magnum, and the fact that the army saw no issues with converting a used .308 action to the more powerful .300 WM is a testimony to the strength of the 700’s receiver.* *(Due to reader interest we have combined these two posting into one for your reading pleasure.)* *5 B... more »

I Should Be Ashamed

LL at Virtual Mirage - 19 hours ago
Somebody needs to call Robert S. Mueller III. During the Obama years, there was a number you could call at the White House and denounce people. It was admittedly easier and far more institutional. I denounced a number of people including myself. (I was highly offended that nobody had denounced me to Obama, so took the bit between my teeth and did it.) I know, "get to the point, LL". I'm getting there. Yesterday, I inadvertently put Russian dressing on a salad, not realizing at the time the national security risk it posed. *What if everyone did that*? It would be a crisis easily as ... more »

U.S. Navy Nightmare: The Chinese Fleet Doesn't Have 300 Ships, It Has 650

David Axe at Test Feed Using Fields - 19 hours ago
*David Axe* *Security, Asia* You have to count the Chinese coast guard and maritime militia. The Chinese fleet is much bigger than most people think. And that should compel the United States to reconsider its Pacific maritime strategy, one expert argued. The People's Liberation Army Navy by 2020 will possess between 313 and 342 warships, the U.S. Office of Naval Intelligence *estimated*. By comparison, in mid-2018 the U.S. Navy possessed 285 warships. Why we need to be wary of narratives of economic catastrophe

arclein at Terra Forming Terra - 20 hours ago
[image: pingnews/Flickr
] Yes, the narratives are compelling and also nonsense. The all fail for one specific reason. Money itself. Money stores purchasing power. Obviously seven billion people need to do this and the moment they have a pool of extra money, they are in the market for investments which cycles that money into immediate use. Now also understand that money is created by the community, it is spent, and then it is taxed back over time. It really is that simple. It is also only inconvenient to eliminate one currency and to replace it with a second ...

Eyewitness Reports 2016 Pterosaur Sighting in Gary, Indiana

arclein at Terra Forming Terra - 20 hours ago
Interesting. The lack of a wing flap at all is puzzling and you really want to see the hardware of a modern drone. Yet that also needed to been seen as well. It could well be that the original pterosaur never actually flapped its wings except perhaps to launch and always depended on gliding. Now think boomerang. Side slipping could provide acceleration and possible lift as well and manipulating that may produce unexpected results. We do have pretty convincing reports from other informants, but those do i think show wing movement. Less though may be characteristic. All goo... more »

8 Different Types of Love According to the Ancient Greeks

I was somewhat aware of this critical analysis, but only in part and never understood it as a useful working framework. This should be shared with our youth as a matter of course, not least since all will abruptly be exposed to Eros and experience usually unwanted turmoil. Putting labels on things is always helpful if only as a starting point for a discussion. I do think that this needs to be put through the academic grind and introduced into our language as well preparatory to entering it into our educational system. It is important and seriously useful and not particularly d... more »

The Uncertain Future of Particle Physics
