Earth's water came from Saturn... major electric universe revelation.

Mike Philbin at Mike Philbin's free planet blog - 9 hours ago
This might be a remnant from the work of radical cosmologist Immanuel Velikovski 1895-1979, who also correctly predicted the current 800°C surface-temperature of Venus, but new evidence* suggests that THE OCEANS OF THE EARTH and THE RINGS OF SATURN are MADE OF THE SAME WATER; watch, listen, learn. Mytho-historical cosmology strongly suggests that the Earth and Saturn had a much more intimate relationship than the very distant one we have today. Our recent ancestors only a few thousand years ago once *WORSHIPPED* the planet Saturn in all their carvings and writings and monuments... more »

A longer school day? Let’s get serious. Sent to the Providence Journal, Dec. 20, 2018. To the editor: It is inspiring to read that the Central Falls Superintendent is pushing to lengthen the school day 60 to 90 minutes, in order to increase test scores. But 60-90 minutes is not enough. Let’s get serious and consider an even longer day. A study published in the Journal of Irreproducible Results concluded that a 21-hour school day is optimal, with continuous classes and no breaks, except for two breaks for meals and one lavatory visit. Among the many advantages would be fewer disciplin... more »

Greg Fingas at Accidental Deliberations - 14 hours ago
This and that for your Thursday reading. - Anis Chowdhury highlights how industry-wide bargaining which avoids a race to the bottom on wages produces improved efficiency as well as a better standard of living for workers. But Christopher Ingraham discusses the choice of U.S. policymakers to instead pull the rug out from under 90 per cent of workers: Bivens and Shierholz say that poor wage growth is less a function of increasing employer power and more a product of deliberate efforts to undermine worker power. Policymakers, for instance, have been reluctant to raise minimum wages, w... more »

Spending A Week In Xinjiang

*Vadim Mikhailov, Palladium:* *A Week In Xinjiang’s Absolute Surveillance State * During a dinner with Chinese friends, I asked the table, “Do you guys have friends in Xinjiang? I’m planning a trip there.” The lively vibe we had enjoyed turned into silence. “Xinjiang? Don’t go there. It’s too dangerous. There’s all those Uyghurs with knives. Go to Hainan or something, it’s nicer there,” a Chinese friend cautioned. “No, no, it used to be dangerous, but now it’s super safe. Lara Minkus, Research fellow, Universität Bremen at Politics + Society – The Conversation - 14 hours ago
Back in 2016, the Brexit vote and US presidential election seemed like a nationalist one-two punch that could knock out the European Union. Instead, EU support actually rose, new research shows.

It started with Nazis: Concerns over foreign agents not just a Trump-era phenomenon

Bradley W. Hart, Assistant Professor of Media, Communications and Journalism, California State University, Fresno at Politics + Society – The Conversation - 14 hours ago
The initial aim of the 1937 Foreign Agents Registration Act was long forgotten: the prosecution of Nazis for interfering with American democracy. But that law is startlingly relevant to the US now.

It's really too bad that the Trump haters have refused to feature the lovely Melania Trump on magazine covers--I'd love to have dresses available that come to mid calf or lower. I might even buy something new. There's not much between jeans with holes and dresses 1" below the panty line. [image: White House Christmas]

My latest *This Issue* show with Maine filmmaker Regis Tremblay on the western demonization of Putin and Russia. This was the 146th edition of the show which airs on about 15 local public access stations across Maine. It's been on the air since 2003. Thanks to all those who help produce the show. You'll notice that the sound from Regis drops way down half-way thru the show. His microphone fell down inside his shirt. The crew in the booth decided to keep going anyway. Regis and I didn't even know it had happened. They turned up his microphone and it turned out OK. Bruce

Over the weekend, readers of the print edition of the Sunday *New York Times* opened the *Book Review* and found Alice Walker recommending *And the Truth Shall Set You Free,* a book by David Icke. Some of us knew that Icke is a notorious crackpot who believes that "reptilian entities" run the world; others knew that Icke is a bone-deep anti-Semite. If there was any doubt about Icke's bigotry, *Tablet*'s Yair Rosenberg subsequently laid it to rest; in a long piece, he quotes from several of Icke's works, including the one Walker recommended in the *Times,* and there's no disputing the... more »

On the Origin of Wars

Statue of Genghis Khan in MongoliaJacob Bronowski, in his book *The Ascent of Man*, says that “the largest single step in the ascent of man is the change from nomad to village agriculture.” But the rise of the settled communities, which were creating surplus produce through agriculture, led to conflicts between the settlers and the nomads. Bronowski traces the origins of war to this conflict. The nomads wanted to survive by stealing the surplus agricultural production and the settlers wanted to preserve the product of their labor, and they had no choice but to fight. Washington's Two-Faced Approach to North Korea

Syria: why is the USA still there at all?

Peter at Bayou Renaissance Man - 15 hours ago
I've noted President Trump's decision to withdraw US forces from Syria, and the outcry that's followed. You'd think this country was abandoning poor, innocent people to the mercies of Nazi concentration camps or Soviet gulags, to read and listen to all the fuss. It's nowhere near that simple. Consider these points. In the first place, the President is right. ISIS *has* been defeated on the battlefield. Can it come back? Sure it can - just as ISIS itself was merely the latest variation on the Islamic fundamentalist terrorist theme to arise in the Middle East over a long, long ... more »
