Jesse was born on August 17th, 2001. Other than the occasional cold or flu, Jesse was a fairly healthy child. On August 13th, 2014, Jesse had a doctor’s appointment during which he received several vaccines. One of them, the one which we feel is the issue, was the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, Gardasil. After his first injection, I started noticing small changes in Jesse’s sleep habits. He was having trouble staying awake during class and staying asleep at night. Jesse was having similar issues on the football field as well. He could hardly stay awake to practice his favorite... more »

Is This The End Of Ed Reform Policy?

Peter Greene at CURMUDGUCATION - 7 hours ago
From time to time Mike Petrilli (Fordham Institute) grabs himself a big declaration and goes to town. Last week, the declaration was "We have reached the end of education policy." He frames this up with references to Francis Fukuyama's book about the end of history, and I don't know that he really ever sticks the landing on creating parallels between Fukuyama's idea (which he acknowledges turned out to be wrong) and his thoughts about ed policy, but it establishes an idea about the scale he's shooting for-- something more sweeping and grandiose than if he'd compared ed policy to vi... more »

*"What Part of “No, Totally” Don’t You Understand?"* by Kathryn Schulz "Not long ago, I walked into a friend’s kitchen and found her opening one of those evil, impossible-to-breach plastic blister packages with a can opener. This worked, and struck me as brilliant, but I mention it only to illustrate a characteristic that I admire in our species: given almost any entity, we will find a way to use it for something other than its intended purpose. We commandeer cafeteria trays to go sledding, “The Power Broker” to prop open the door, the Internet to look at kittens. We do this with w... more »

A Cherokee Proverb

noreply@blogger.com (Coyote Prime) at Running 'Cause I Can't Fly - 7 hours ago
"One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, “My son, the battle is between two wolves inside us all. One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego. The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, generosity, empathy, truth, compassion and faith.” The grandson thought about this for a minute and then asked the grandfather, “Which wolf wins?” The old Cherokee simply replied,... more »

Heart warming moment dolphin stuck in mud is rescued

White Wolf at White Wolf - 8 hours ago
This is the moment a stranded dolphin finally swam free after a boat crew battled for four hours to rescue it from mud. The dolphin was stuck on its side in the Everglades National Park, Florida, when it was spotted by a charter fishing crew last month. Chris Jones filmed the four-hour efforts of the rescuers as they dug in the mud to help the critter escape. The video began as the dolphin splashed on its side in shallow water in a desperate attempt to free itself from the mud. But the creature had no luck alone, and quickly stilled when the small boat approached. Members of the ... more »

It's Not Just Trump-- The Whole GOP Has A Really Bad Way Of Dealing With The Concept Of An EPA

Yesterday Brady Dennis and Juliet Eilperin, writing for the *Washington Post,* broke the not unexpected news: Trump plans to nominate Andrew Wheeler, former coal lobbyist, as EPA chief.
