Walking backwards for brain power???

Peter at Bayou Renaissance Man - 18 hours ago
Sometimes news reports just boggle the mind - like this one. People who walk backwards perform better in a memory test than those who stand still or walk forward, a study has found. Researchers asked 114 volunteers to watch a video in which a woman had her bag stolen and then answer a questionnaire about what they could recall. After watching the video, participants were split into groups - one was told to walk forwards or backwards 30 feet (10m) while a control group stood in one place. They were then asked twenty questions about the events in the video and it was found that the ... more »

Newton’s Epicurean Theory of Structure of Matter

Anoop Verma at The Verma Report - 18 hours ago
Newton's portrait by Godfrey Kneller (1702)Isaac Newton was influenced by the Epicurean theory of atomism, which he discovered mainly in the works of Pierre Gassendi. But he also read Lucretius’s *De rerum natura* directly. Here’s an excerpt from *Optics* in which Newton is talking about the elementary particles from which the world is created: It seems probable to me that God, in the beginning, formed matter in solid, massy, hard, impenetrable, moveable particles, of such sizes and figures, and with such other properties, and in such proportions to space, as most conduced to the e... more »

Local news

In depressing news, the UK's fourth-largest local newspaper group, Johnston Press, is going into administration. People are noting that it publishes such mighty local names as *The Yorkshire Post *and *The Scotsman *and *The i, *but it actually has over 200 titles to its name, including the mightiest local names of all, namely the *Morecambe Visitor* and the *Lancaster Guardian *(the former widely regarded by me as the UK's finest local newspaper). I doubt we'll be hearing much about this from the BBC, but Media Guido is surely bang on the mark in saying, "And the BBC is now the... more »

The Navy's Super Railgun Is Dead (And Alive)

Forgotten Fact: Nazi Germany Used Cavalry in World War II

By 1939 the German Reich possessed 3,800,000 horses while 885,000 were initially called to the Wehrmacht as saddle, draft, and pack animals. The British Military Has a Problem

Michael Peck at Test Feed Using Fields - 19 hours ago
*Michael Peck* *Security, Europe* [image: Reuters] A budget problem, that is. An audit by the National Audit Office—the British government’s financial watchdog—says the British military’s appetite is bigger than its budget. The Ministry of Defense’s ten-year plan to purchase and support new equipment over the next ten years has a budget of £186.4 billion ($244.7 billion). But auditors forecast the actual cost of the 2018–2028 Equipment Plan at £193.3 billion (US$253.8 billion), or about a $7 billion shortfall. The plan “remains unaffordable, with forecast costs exceeding budgets ... more »

Voter fraud

What this public horror show is setting up is a special election for all clearly problematic elections. That will certainly eliminate these DEM gains and possibly recapture the house for the GOP. It will not change out the final outcome, but it will knock out a lot of stolen positions deeper in the ballot. As i have posted, this midterm has been gamed to expose DEM electoral criminality in such a way as to lead to prosecution. The intent is to make such behavior unattractive in the future. Better yet it will enforce demand for a viable voter ID system at the least and signi... more »

Let us talk about this object. 1 It is a proven interstellar object that has a large mass. 2 It appears to be long and thin or potentially cylindrical. This is unimaginably important becausethis is how you would engineer an interstellar space habitat. Such a craft can be even several miles across to produce a large diameter. The multilayered outer shell can be suspended from a central axis with cables, much like a suspension bridge. Cables can also be used to secure mass around the diameter as well to provide structural space protection. The whole purpose of all this i... more »

Half Of Health Spending In The US Is Now Government Spending

Looking at these numbers is a complete shift of the health cost paradigm. Necessary subsidization is actually driving the system toward the equivalent of a single payers system. Not a good plan. What i do know is that all of us adults need to be able to attend a health maintenance program costing around $200 per month. It must include access to equipment and guides who help in training and spot health issues. Most health professionals can be easily trained into this mode of health delivery. A combination of rejuvenation and problem resolution will produce a willing patient q... more »

Trump Hints At Federal Investigation As Dems Gain Ground In Arizona, Florida And Georgia

arclein at Terra Forming Terra - 21 hours ago
Of course, this was all set up ahead of time and the DEMS walked right into the trap. There will be one hell of an investigation that will make Voter ID inevitable. We mostly did just that in BC Canada by simply extending the licensing process of the Motor vehicle act to include health ID as well. That left a small number of exceptions easily enough dealt with. If the illegals no longer can vote, we will have grossly weakened DEMs who will then be wrapped up in an internal fight with the radical left and the socialist sympathetic electors. Good luck on getting out the vote ... more »
