However, in their book, “How Democracies Die,” political scientists Steven Levitsky and Daniel Ziblatt write: “How do elected authoritarians shatter the democratic institutions that are supposed to constrain them? Some do it in one fell swoop. But more often, the assault on democracy begins slowly. … The erosion of democracy takes place piecemeal, often in baby steps.” The baby steps began quite awhile ago: Long before Trump ran for office, Repub... more »

Since 2016, there has been a great deal of speculation from the mainstream media in the United States about why 62,984,825 American voters cast their ballots for Donald Trump. Michael Peck at Test Feed Using Fields - 20 hours ago
*Michael Peck* *Security, Asia* Chinese military power is expanding beyond its Western Pacific backyard--and beyond. Western media seized on a new Pentagon report that Chinese bombers are training to strike deep into the Western Pacific, including Guam, the Philippines and Japan. But China's military is improving in numerous other ways, according to "Military and Security Developments Involving the People's Republic of China 2018," a report that the Pentagon is required to deliver to Congress each year. For example: *China's army is becoming more flexible: * Forget the Cold ... more »

"'Good" is what you like, and "Bad" is what you don't like, and it's different for everybody.' Kelley sees the 'bad' people as being figments of the imagination. Kelley sees 'bad' events as being figments of the imagination. 'We co-author each other's plays.' When he temporarily 'died' Kelley was in a wonderful place. Organic Milk No Longer Organic: Factory Farms Take Over Organic Dairy and Drive Small Farms Out of Business

AdminM at Health Impact News - 1 day ago
When commercialized in the 1980s, the organic dairy movement was viewed by many farmers as opting out of a rapacious agricultural marketing system that had already driven the majority of dairy farm families off the land over the preceding two decades. Now, a quarter century later, history is repeating itself with giant “factory farms” flooding the organic dairy market with fraudulent “organic” milk and economically devastating family businesses and rural communities. According to the latest USDA records, organic milk production jumped 18.5% in 2016 alone, far eclipsing the growth i... more »

"Deniers" caused Aretha Franklin's death.

Just because you have great talent as a musician, doesn't mean you have brains. Last week we lost a great musical talent with the death of Aretha Franklin. Another talented musician, Stevie Wonder, has blamed Franklin's death on "those who don’t believe in global warming, don’t believe that what we do affects the world." Not on global warming, no, on those who don't believe in global warming! Here's the full quote (link): I just feel that all these various diseases that we have and all these things that are happening in the world in part is because there are those who don’t bel... more »

Who Cares About the F-35: This Is Why Russia Doesn't Fear American Weapons

*Michael Peck* *Security, Europe* Americans are horrified when their soldiers don't receive the most cutting-edge equipment. Russia is willing to sacrifice sophistication for simplicity. Surprise! America's F-35 stealth fighter is too complicated and expensive, claims a Russian military expert interviewed by Russian media. Hard to believe, isn't it? Yet while the Sputnik News interview might be dismissed as tendentious at best and propaganda at worst, it perfectly illustrates how Russia and the West view weapons technology.
