Voting In Arizona And Utah Isn't Until Tuesday But The Stop-Trump Movement Has Already Decamped For Wisconsin

DownWithTyranny at DownWithTyranny! - 32 minutes ago
The NeverTrump movement doesn't really seem to be getting off the ground, although some of the OurPrinciplesPAC ads aren't bad, even if they seem to be largely ineffective. Over the weekend, the *New York Times*' Alexander Burns and Jonathan Martin looked at the GOP establishment's puny efforts against the fascist bully who's been running circles around them. Ignoring that most observers now see him as unstoppable, the reporters' assessment is that "There is no longer room for error or delay, the anti-Trump forces say, and without a flawlessly executed plan of attack, he could well... more »

TV Watch: "Tio" Salamanca talks! Or, how much are we loving Season 2 of "Better Call Saul"?

fascist shift: donald trump in context

laura k at wmtc - 1 hour ago
Many years back, I used to blog about a phenomenon called *fascist shift*. I borrowed the term from Naomi Wolf's essential *The End of America*, but the concept was something I had been thinking about for many years. In brief, fascist shift asks, What if we're all looking for jackboots and *Sieg Heil* and tanks rolling down Pennsylvania Avenue, and while we're keeping our eyes peeled for a scene from a black-and-white newsreel, a different brand of fascism moves in and sets up shop? What if today's fascism is more insidious and less obvious - and what if it's dressed up in a democrac... more »

New Self-learning Robot Says: “I Will Destroy Humans”

The evolution of Artificial Intelligence has taken a sinister turn as a DARPA robot was caught on camera stating that she will “destroy humans” one day. As can be seen in the video, the robot is “abused” by its human handler, and the robot makes it very clear that it will strike back if that behaviour continues. Some civil rights groups, such as the Seattle-based Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Robots, have begun arguing that robots should be awarded legal rights and privileges in the near future – due to their increasing human-like nature. Driver for the PlayStation

Sony's PlayStation made its mark as the first "proper" adult video games system, and was marketed to the late teen/twenty something demographic. As such Sony was concerned to build up a roster of hundreds of edgey games that would go down well and sell more systems. Musings On Iraq In The News

Joel Wing at MUSINGS ON IRAQ - 8 hours ago
I was interviewed by Andrew Tilghman for his article “Ramadi was supposed to be rid of ISIS. That’s not entirely true,” for the Military Times.

Are you left wondering what is now going on in Syria, Turkey, and the rest of the middle east? What Russia is doing now that it has stopped bombing ISIS/ISIL/Daesh jihadis? Well, Russia is now "calling the shots", not with bombs, but with diplomacy. In any event, the intrepid West Asia correspondent Pepe Escobar reports that: "It's spy thriller stuff; no one is talking. But there are indications Russia would not announce a partial withdrawal from Syria right before the Geneva negotiations ramp up unless a grand bargain with Washington had been struck. Some sort of bargain is in play, of which we still don't know the details; that's what the CIA itself is basically saying through their multiple US Think Tankland mouthpieces. And that's the real meaning hidden under a carefully timed Barack Obama interview that, although inviting suspension of disbelief, reads like a major policy change document."

I was in a state of shock this week. I met with some Democratic insiders and the most insider of all-- after repeating word-for-word the Wall Street/Schumer line of why Alan Grayson must be destroyed-- agreed with my assessment of Debbie Wasserman Schultz... perhaps not the specifics of the case against her, but totally with the conclusion: for the sake of the Democratic Party and for the sake of the country, she must be defeated in the late August primary. People sometimes ask me if I’d like to have a job as a proper TV critic. No way. One of the reasons I don’t blog more frequently, or tackle a broader range of programmes is that I don’t watch all that much TV - apart from the News Channel and, say, a Scandi Noir or two on BBC Four. After its shaky start I’m now enjoying The Night Manager, too. I never listen to radio 5 live, which BBC bias-watchers often cite as the source of much frustration. I don't know if it's just me but I at least, and perhaps some of you, tend to think our online presence confers some immortality upon us. And up to a point, that's true. Many who have died still have active Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Youtube accounts as well as blogs. But in many cases, that simply isn't true. Take the tragic case of Diane Hugo, aka Dusty Taylor. Diane was apparently murdered by her own son roughly a year ago with a gunshot wound to the head. Her body was then stuffed in a ... more »

Tuesday is budget day. The deficit, Justin Trudeau tells us, is about job creation. Carol Goar reminds her readers that job creation is about quality as well as quantity: This truth never penetrated Stephen Harper’s government. After the the outing of Gerry Downing as a useful idiot for our party's enemies, the race is on to find more specimens of the outrageous, the unhinged, and the anti-semitic. None of it has to do with the disinterested pursuit of a story, of course, and everything to do with inculcating guilt-by-association in the minds of the public, and is why Labour should not make a comfortable home for people of this ilk. The latest attempt to stoke a panic about far left idiocy was driven into the back woods last night by the unlamented departure of Iain Duncan Smith. What is the story I speak... more »

If Liberal-Hawk Hillary Succeeds Obama, He Will be Missed

Grayson Black at Your News Wire - 1 day ago
Obama could have underscored the dangerous delusions of the neocons and liberal hawks in his 2 administrations, but why, instead, did he allow neocon/liberal-hawk disinformation to permeate the American political belief system without challenge? And what is it about Obama that precludes him form being transparent with the American public as originally promised? Perhaps Obama is an elitist, or wants the approval of the elitists because he protects the secrets even when transparency would better serve him and the public interest. For instance, even though he was told by U.S. intellige... more »

Donald Trump: America Is A Third World Country

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump has told a gathering in Salt Lake City that America is now a poor ‘third world country’ with infrastructure that is ancient compared to other countries. AlAlam reports: “We have become a third world country, folks!,” Trump told supporters at an election rally. “If you go to places like Dubai, China, you look at the roads, at the rail roads, they have the bullet trains that go 100s of miles an hour. And if you go to New York, they’re like 100 years ago,” he said. Trump pledged to change things if he is elected president in the November... more »

The case for smugness in education

On a near daily basis, educators are asked repeatedly to let down their guards and be “open” to feedback. It is so amazing as to how much it has cost the United States of America for its constant wars of aggression around the world... Some estimates have that illegal invasion and subsequent occupation of that innocent nation for over a decade at around $2 TRILLION dollars plus... And of course we have that nice little war and invasion of Afghanistan from 2001, until the US finally agreed to "withdraw" from that innocent nation as well just last year, at just over a TRILLION... more »
