The *Orlando Sentinel* is a pretty conservative newspaper. They endorsed Rubio when he ran for the Senate and they endorsed Romney when he tried preventing Obama from being reelected in 2012. And last year they backed right-wing GOP incumbents John Mica, Bill Posey and Daniel "Taliban Dan" Webster, as well as a right-wing Tea Party challenger to Alan Grayson, Carol Platt (who Grayson went on to beat 54-43%). On Socialism

Socialism is a system which makes the corporate unity of society responsible for all its economic processes, or all those affecting life and essential living. If anything important is sold, the Government has sold it; if anything important is given, the Government has given it; if anything important is even tolerated, the Government is responsible for tolerating it. This is the very reverse of anarchy; it is an extreme enthusiasm for authority. It is in many ways worthy of the moral dignity of the mind; it is a collective acceptance of very complete responsibility… A Socialist Gover... more »

This Weeks Budget Agreement In Washington Funds The Pentagon's Budget And Needs For Two Years

War News Updates Editor at War News Updates - 12 hours ago
Wikipedia *Defense One*: *Budget Deal Is A Big Win for Pentagon* Even though it’s only a two-year agreement, the budget deal passed by Congress and the White House will get the Pentagon past the worst of the spending caps. The Pentagon has weathered the worst of the defense spending caps that military leaders have called a thorn in their side since 2013. The bipartisan budget deal struck by Congress — the Senate passed the measure early Friday morning, matching the House’s action earlier this week — gives the Defense Department big-time relief immediately, raising the 2016 spendi... more »

On a related subject, I must just recommend a superb article in the *Independent *by Howard Jacobson. The attacks on Germaine Greer over her dismissal of 'transgenderism' and on Martin Amis over his dismissal of Jeremy Corbyn are its pegs, but the piece is essentially a plea for the benefits of free speech, especially to those who don't like what they're hearing - and we can't get enough of those at the moment: It isn’t only in the name of free speech that the views of an itchy polemicist should be tolerated – and I say itchy polemicist promoting thought, not itchy ideologue promo... more »

It's his 13th solo effort, although it's funny to call an album that features incredible musicians like Ben Harper and DJ Bonebrake a solo effort. Peter plays his songs, mostly in clubs, for a living. You may have seen him in the last year playing at Alan Grayson (D-FL) rallies. I have a feeling there'll be mo... more »

Thursday night the Senate stayed up uncharacteristicly late-- no French working week this time-- to debate and vote on the budget. Although, with Senate GOP leadership and 18 Republicans committed to passage, it was a forgone conclusion that there would *not* be another GOP government shutdown, most of the southern extremists followed presidential candidates Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio-- yes, he showed up, not to work but for an opportunity to grandstand-- and Rand Paul in a pitiful narcissistic charade to elevate nihilism and wreck the economic in pursuit of their own narrow career dre... more »

After the launch of Russia’s successful bombing campaign to wipe out ISIS in Syria only a month ago, more than 800,000 refugees are now planning to return to their homeland. The Islamic State group had control over vast areas of Syria, forcing tens of thousand of Syrians to escape the terror. The Daily Express reports: Many desperate asylum seekers have made their way to Europe via boats to Greece, with David Cameron agreeing to let 20,000 in Britain over the next five years. But Russia’s bid to wipe out ISIS has been so successful that almost a million Syrians are elected to retur... more »
