Pakistan Asks A Weak Afghanistan To Share Power With A Confident Taliban, Who Have Taken New Hope From The Rise of ISIL Across The Region

Saman Mohammadi at The Excavator - 16 minutes ago
*Kabul can be taken just as easily as Mosul was because the US-trained Afghan army, like the US-trained Iraqi army, is corrupt and demoralized. They have more money and weapons than they know what to do with. What they're missing are the fundamentals like belief and will, which the Taliban, ISIL, and Shiite militias have in plenty.* *An excerpt from, "$65 Billion Later, U.S. Hands the Reins to a Weak Afghan Army" by Brianna Ehley, The Fiscal Times, March 4, 2015:* A *new report* from the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) contains information that the ... more »

*“What Is Synchronicity?”* by Zen Gardner "First of all, the mystical synchronicity mechanism *just is*. It’s a manifestation of the great conscious Universal Truth that underlies and drives everything with or without our conscious recognition of it. To me it distills down to neophyte mankind uncovering clearly connecting events that supersede our mental understandings. And when we do it serves as an inspiration and continual wake up call. To the ancients this was natural. Here’s some interesting quotes from “The Art of Being Present”: "Synchronicity – the unexpected merging of two... more »

The CSA Combat Scorpio is designed to look like a submachine gun (close range combat). It has a large, combat-style magazine holding, perhaps 20 shots. For ourselves, we’ve been surprised it has taken so long to see news reports of this type. We liberals have largely dragged our heels about the topics under discussion—for exa... more »

The Islamic State vs the Assyrian Empire

Craig at Is the BBC biased? - 12 hours ago
Please forgive me the following rant, but I need to get it off my chest... As someone who has loved ancient history since childhood, Islamic State's pious destruction of the relics of the ancient Assyrian Empire beggars belief. The Assyrian Empire was one of the cruelest and most successful of the ancient empires. It declared a 'universal empire'. It aimed, through shocking, awe-inspiring deeds of extreme violence, to inspire terror in the hearts of its enemies and, thus, make conquering them a doddle. It killed and destroyed on an unprecedented scale, grabbing massive amounts of ... more »

European Languages L:inked to Migration From the East

[image: European languages linked to migration from the east] This is excellent news. It happens to coincide with the sudden globalization of Bronze Age technology driven by sea borne shipment of metals. Thus we have the domestication of the horse and the related adoption of wheeled technology linked directly in time to the first real empire building. All this brought trade factories into Europe and elsewhere and opened the question of DNA evidence and what technology is associated with this expansion. This established the first serious conforming evidence whose lack would b... more »

Archaeologists Reveal Mysteries of ‘lost’ 3,000-year-old Civilisation

This is interesting. I do see this as a successor society that arose as the land dried out during the Bronze Age from primitive grazing methods. a problem to this day. Intensification was certainly possible and technology was also available as this came at the end of the Bronze Age. That transition saw extensive climate change as well in various locales caused by disruption originating in the Atlantic. Thus the rise of such a culture fits time and place. This is also the most likely culture for the taming and adaptation of the Camel. *Archaeologists reveal mysteries of ‘lo... more »

FBI Quietly Declassified Secret Files Attesting Hitler Fled to Argentina in 1945

Essentially there are no creditable holes in the story line. We even have witnesses reporting the right things at the right times. Hitler and Eva exited Berlin weeks before the actual end. They then made it safely to either Spain or Portugal to await war's end and their pick up by two submarines. These craft could likely handle two each. In the meantime a disinformation program kicked in even around their escape but certainly around their apparent suicide which conforms to the execution of his body double and likely Eva's body double. KRandle at A Different Perspective - 1 day ago
The hypocrisy of this situation is beginning to get to me. On the one hand, we are told that there is a witness who was in Roswell in July 1947 who saw the alien bodies and he said that the slides show what he had seen or at the very least it looked like what he had seen. On the other we are condemned for naming him as if his credentials are unimportant beyond what we are told. He was there in 1947 and we should just accept this fact according to the narrative that is developing. Well, his name wasn’t all that important when he was one of many voices talking about the events of 194... more »

Shock: Fracking Used to Inject Nuclear Waste Underground for Decades

Mars Daniels at GLOBAL POLITICAL AWAKENING - 1 day ago
Aaron Dykes and Melissa Melton Unearthed articles from the 1960s detail how nuclear waste was buried beneath the Earth’s surface by Halliburton & Co. for decades as a means of disposing the by-products of post-World War II atomic energy production. Fracking is already a controversial practice on its face; allowing U.S. industries to inject slurries of toxic, potentially carcinogenic compounds deep beneath the planet’s surface — as a means of “see no evil” waste disposal — already sounds ridiculous, dangerous, and stupid anyway without even going into further detail. Alleged fracki... more »

Kenneth Prewitt on Science and Congress

noreply@blogger.com (Roger Pielke, Jr.) at Roger Pielke Jr.'s Blog - 1 day ago
Kenneth Prewitt, of Columbia University and social scientist extraordinaire, has an interesting paper out in the January, 2015 *Annals of the American Academy of Political and Social Science*. The paper is titled, "Who Is Listening? When Scholars Think They Are Talking to Congress ." Here is a neat excerpt: Scientists, social or otherwise, err in claiming that members of Congress are hostile to science or are anti-science when they vote contrary to scientific warnings about climate change or side with Biblical literalists and intelligent design proponents or express misgivings a... more »

THE ISRAELI ZIONISTS OBSESSION WITH IRAN

You could be forgiven for thinking that the Israeli extreme right must be nuts for being so obsessed about Iran when the Islamic State (IS), a far more bloodthirsty and ruthless organisation that borders on being an anarchistic-fascist organisation hell bent on destroying anything and everything that doesn’t conform to its beliefs, is almost at Israel’s northern borders. Rest assured, however, that there is method in Israel’s apparent madness. The Israelis for years, indeed, long before IS came along, have considered Iran as their mortal enemy accusing them of wanting nothing less t... more »

March 5: My Times and Transcript delivery.....

Graeme Decarie at The Moncton Times@Transcript - Good and Bad - 1 day ago
...., not for the first time, is some five hours late. So I'll begin with a topic I only touched on yesterday. This is for school boards and for high school teachers. Do not teach any national history in elementary or high school. There are two reasons. One is that any national history is such a broad subject that it can be taught only as memory work (rote learning), and it is a waste of time because rote learning is soon forgotten. The other reason is because the only history you are allowed to teach in the public schools is "feel good" history. If, in particular, you try to teach... more »

Our clown Supreme Court takes on the bogus challenge to Obamacare -- and makes believe it's legitimate!

KenInNY at DownWithTyranny! - 1 day ago
*Justice "Slow Anthony" Kennedy*: *"At least," says Ian Millhiser, "one of the Court’s Republicans appears to have come to work wearing his judicial robe, and not his partisan hat."* *by Ken* All in all, I'm inclined to go along with Greg Sargent's estimate of yesterday's Supreme Court oral arguments on King v. Burwell: "A hint of good news for Obamacare, but don’t get your hopes up too much." King v. Burwell, you'll recall, is the case that seeks to topple the Affordable Care Act on the ground of a single infelicitous wording, neither noticed nor known to exist by anyone on the p... more »

The Economy: "Get Ready for a “Zero Returns” World"

noreply@blogger.com (CoyotePrime) at Running 'Cause I Can't Fly - 1 day ago
*"Get Ready for a 'Zero Returns' World"* by Bill Bonner Gualfin, Argentina - “Where is that old and tattered “Crash Alert” flag? Many times since the start of the rally in US stocks in 2009, we hoisted it. And many times has it failed to give us a useful signal. But we will bring it out again, if a bit sheepishly… and let it wave, in the warm Argentine air. Why? Do we know a crash is coming? No, of course not. Is our flag a good indicator of what will happen? Apparently not. But we regard it like the “Shark Alert” flags you see on the beaches of Australia. (Down Under is the only... more »

Tonight's *The Report *on Radio 4 took a scary look at anti-Semitism in the United Kingdom: Anti-Semitism in the UK: Simon Cox investigates the changing face of prejudice against Jewish people after recent lethal attacks in Paris, Copenhagen and Brussels. With the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, calling for European Jews to move to Israel, we look at whether there is more dangerous anti-Semitism online and on the streets of the UK. Free Trade 44: The Gravity Model

Nonoy Oplas at Government and Taxes - 1 day ago
An old theory in international trade (and migration) but which I heard and read only last month, is the gravity model. This is on top of the classical David Ricardo theory of "comparative advantage" and the Heckscher-Ohlin theorem of factor abundance as basis for trade. The first two theories assumed that all other things being equal, meaning distance between and among trade partners are assumed to be similar. The addition of the gravity theory on the first two or other theories somehow completes the picture of why and where people in one country trade more with people in country X ... more »

What Would Nature Say About Ecological Warfare?

Charli Carpenter at Duck of Minerva - 1 day ago
I thought of this incredible eco-ad campaign, NatureisSpeaking.org, when I read Bronwyn Leebaw’s fascinating article “Scorched Earth: Environmental War Crimes and International Justice” in Perspectives on Politics. This is a much-overdue analysis of the place of the earth and environmental damage in the laws of armed conflict – two issues areas rarely studied by […]

Felice Cohen-Joppa from Tucson writes: In Solidarity With our Peace Friends on Jeju Island... Twelve activists with the Pacific Life Community were arrested for blocking the road into Lockheed Martin, Sunnyvale, California on March 2 (8 are still in jail for at least a night or two after refusing to sign papers for their release). Before the blockade some of the protesters did one of the special dances from Gangjeong village, after practicing over the weekend! More pictures and a report will be on the Nuclear Resister Facebook page after I get some sleep and travel home!! Fr. Bix... more »
